Projects for 2013

With the rush of Christmas over a lot of forums I visit have been holding threads on plans for 2013 model projects?

Myself I intend to continue with my various Zombies projects, More 7TV, Certainly more Empire of the Dead and a new one sci fi in 15mm.

I've always been in love with the Aliens, Predator, Aliens Vs Predator movies and books. I recently caught up with some movie watching and watched Prometheus which has sparke off my imagination. I looked into doing this in 28mm Hasslefree being a great source of marines. However there are no decent Alien figures that don't require major conversions to get the look that I want. So 15mm is the route I've decided to go it will be mainly figures from Khurasan though I may pick up a few bits and pieces.

The first package has arrived of many as I'm ordering small quantity's to avoid being stung by customs plus they have some excellent vehicles. I've been collecting some matchbox diecast vehicles from various places for the project which i'm going to try and strip and repaint.

What are you guys all planning on doing,

  2. Whatever you do, make sure you have fun. That's what the hobby is all about. I have no new plans for 2013. It's more of the same for me.

  3. sounds good, I've always wanted to do a 28mm Aliens project but as you say there really are no good alien figures. GW Genestealers are an easily convertible option. You could sculpt the missing tails and heads and cast them up yourself in resin.

    1. I decided to go the minimum fuss route as 15mm is cheaper and I don't have to mess about converting them.

    2. 15mm definitely has a lot of good options for this.

  6. It is all ways optomistic to think of the plans for the future. Some great ideas.

Maybe have a look at Pendraken for 10mm "Aliens" . If you can manage it in 15mm 10mm is not such a large leap. You might find that some of them will fit in with the 15mm ones.

Empire of the dead.... Victorian Necromunda?mordhiem.

Plenty of scope for 7TV you can take it anywhere you can think of!

Zombies... NUFF said guvnor. Again so many potential settings not just contemporary.

It all sounds like a great selection to me and it clearly points to the type of games you enjoy. Best wishes, good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing how you tackle them.

  7. My only plans thus far are to finish the two projects I'm working on and then paint bits and bobs in as many different scales as I can.

I've finally come to grips with 15mm and I wish you less frustration than I when you begin yours!

    1. Sounds good then. I'm starting slowly I've painted a couple of sentry guns so far to get to grips with the scale before I start the infantry. I'm going to do some research fist though as they are more detailed than the guns.

  8. I started an Aliens project myself once. But like you say, you can get everything but the aliens in 28mm! Almost impossible unless you pay through the nose for some of the Clix aliens! I've not tried it, but I hear that GW Bloodletter demons can be converted quite well into Aliens!

    1. I had put a lot of thought into 28mm and though that also and using some Lurker heads from Heresy miniatures, But its the cost vs time scenario.

So decided to go the 15mm route as its simpler, cheaper and take sup less space :D

  9. Interesting, what did you think of Prometheous? I was looking forward to it, but it got pretty much panned so I didnt bother going to see it...

I think LOTR/Hobbit will be keeping busy for the most part of 2013...

    1. Your Goblin town is coming along nicely. Prometheus was good/bad. You need to watch it a few times to fully understand what they did with it. I'm looking forward to the next movie to be honest.

  14. Hello, Brummie!

Interesting that you are doing an Aliens project. You are probably better off with 15mm anyway on that. I think I still have a bunch of the very old & OOP Leading Edge's official licensed 25mm Aliens figure & marines somewhere in my basement. I bought them way back when they released and never got around to doing anything with them. Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to part with them, if I still have them, even though I did stuff off my Leading Edge Terminator stuff. I doubt that they show up on eBay at all.

Anyway, I do want to point you to a very good resource for Aliens gaming: http://aliens.humlak.cz/aliens/aliens_papirove_modely_gb.htm

This guy has a bunch of papercraft buildings & vehicles from the movie Aliens. Most of the stuff is 1/48 (25mm), but can be scaled down in print to be 1/100 (15mm). His dropships are 1/148th, which would fit in with 10mm.

I can't say what scale the Galoob Micro Machines stuff are (they do pop up on eBay very now and then), but Konami put out a really nice set of collectables, and the APC was about 10mm. They periodically show up on eBay as well. http://www.verycoolthings.com/vct/Neo_getpage.cgi?page=itemtoy&itemID=13951

Besides Khurasn's "not-Aliens" in 15mm, also check out GZG with has a pack http://www.flickr.com/photos/inrepose/363631163/ and QRF (they are not as nice as Khurasn's, but they got all of the marine characters from "Aliens".

    Cheers,

    Joe

  15. Oops, I meant that most of the papercraft models were 1/148th, or 10mm and not 1/48th. After I started looking at the website again, I realized I was wrong.

  17. For 28mm Predators and Aliens track down the box sets from Horrorclix. They are the right scale and pretty decently done. You should be able to find all three sets (Pred box, Alien box and Alien queen) for cheap nowadays.
