The Warrior from the Night Folk Range.

Finished off the final member of Nightfolk Set 1 you can find pics of the other two members of the pack The Warlock and The Sentinel just click on there names. This guy kind of stumped me a bit really wanted to to the robes purple but wasn't happy with the final colour I was getting. I've since picked up the rest of the Army Painter colour tones Red, Blue, Green and Purple and its really brought the cloak together nicely and he is now finished.

Very much in a Fantasy mood lately I've a few more finished for my Labyrinth project. Working on two more of the Hasslefree Medieval Children and another Otherworld Adventurer the Gnome Thief. Hoping to get those done this week so hopefully finished and will be Sunday's and next Wednesday's posts.

Apologies for the pics light is terrible and they are sort of coming out a bit pale for some reason. The Sun always seems so low and either kills the definition or totally washes out the pics grrr. Bring on Spring!

More Hasslefree Medieval kids.

This week got two more out of this four pack of medieval attired children finished. Just leaving one more to get done. The little fella with the mace has drove me nuts. I seem to have lost the ability to paint left eyes (not that they were great anyway) but this little sod has taken about 7-9 attempts. So I have given up and he will have to do! Again pics are little pale hes a bit darker than this.

The second little girl in this pack is tooled up with helmet, shield and shortsword in a purple dress as this is my youngest little ones favourite colour. I'm hoping to get them to have a game over the Christmas break using a simplified version of SoBH the incentive will be to search the board and kill goblins (more on that next week) and attain treasure (Sweets of some kind). I'm hoping they will enjoy it anyway.

The Trio Completed just one more to finished off!

The Sentinel from the Nightfolk Range

Second from figure from Set 1 is finished this guy is called the Sentinel he very much to me has a labyrinth look about him. I love all the little details such as the rivets and the hastily patched armour. All the figures in the range have these little extras.

The Warlock from the Nightfolk Range

Definitely got the bug to paint some Fantasy stuff. Having a mooch through the paint queue to see what to paint next and decided to grab these guys out and give them some brush love. Quite a quirky fantasy range chunkier miniatures than what i'm used but they have such lovely character and for my intended use of a Labyrinth theme project the fit in perfect. There has been many releases since I picked these up over a month ago some awesome looking knights and some more quirky characters.

The Warlock was a real joy to paint lots of nice details such as the feathers and the fur rimmed cloak as well as the gnarled staff all have such tremendous detail. The Bird is even greater I really didn't know how to do it so have made up my own breed and colour scheme which I'll just call a Fae Hawk :)

I'm planning on going to the Derby World Wargames Show on the 4th and 5th October and will be picking up some more from this range as the Northumbrian Tin Soldier will have his stall there. Anybody planning on going? I'll be going on the Saturday most likely.

Labyrinth Project Gnome Artificer.

Having caught up with my Across the Dead Earth miniatures on the paint table this week. Decided to get another figure finished off for my Labyrinth project. Its a Female Gnome Artificer from Stone Haven miniatures She had been half done for a while but holiday and normal life things etc distracted me from getting her finished. This will be a slow burn project I think. I have 6 Night Folk figures to paint up but i'm going to continue to get some of my terrain finished mainly the ruins but the post box has been based up and is ready for painting but more on that in another post.

Plucky Young Archer and more on the Labyrinth Project.

I'm back! Had a great holiday it was a busy week but a much needed break been great doing loads of stuff with the family. Had very little internet down there despite having a smart phone the signal was lacking somewhat.

This week has been chaotic coming back Monday evening and then straight back to the usual rushing about and has been tiring. Not to mention a bit stressful as well my youngest girl Leila set us both off  in a panic at 3am Thursday morning waking up in pain and struggling to breath. Turned out to be croup but she suffers from asthma and we thought it was an attack, Leila's ok now a Paramedic (Super speedy response and a fantastic lady) came out checked her over and we shot down to A&E to get an steroid antibiotic to treat the croup.

Finished reading my Goblin Companion book. Not a great deal of reading tbh very funny but the art was fantastic and really what its all about. I shall definitely pick up the Goblins of the Labyrinth and some of the other Froud books.

The Labyrinth project continues.  After reading the Goblin Companion is you can pretty much use any figures you like as there is such a wide variety both in size and in style. One though I had for a good themed Faction was perhaps young children who had escaped the Goblin Kings clutches and banded together with some of the nicer folk that are hinted at in the Labyrinth/Dark Crystal movies. Also The classic Dungeon and Dragon cartoon started calling so I thought ok lets look for some Fantasy themed children and found some great ones sold by Hasslefree. A quick scan about and a spot on ebay and I managed to pick up the Medieval pack for just over a fiver including postage.

Anyway enough waffle here is the first of the children finished. Not thought of a name yet might get Carmen my daughter to name her. A request of using a Cinderella colour scheme was passed on. Quite pleased how she has turned out despite not painting for a while. There is a slight gap at the back of the figure where there is a tile missing. Not sure yet what I'm going to do I've had various suggestions so shall mull it over.

Work has started on the other 3 from the pack and I hope to have them completed over the week. I ordered my first batch of figures from the Northumbrian Tin Soldiers Night Folk range. They arrived Thursday morning and they are fantastic I'll do a review later in the week of the first two blisters. I shall certainly be collecting all of them they are lovely miniatures and I'm looking forward to starting work on them

Goblins Gnomes and Dwarf's of the Labyrinth

Was hoping to have Hasslefree's McKenzie finished this week but a painting cock up and the corrective measures ended up with the paint to thick so she has been stripped to be done again Nevermind though!

I quite fancy doing some Froud/Labyrinth/Dark Crystal themed games especially seeing as the girls love both the movies. So I've been looking around and seen some great looking figures that when combined could make some fun war bands for SoBH's or a similar type rule set. I've also picked up The Goblin Companion by Brian Froud & Terry Jones for Father's day. I've not cracked it open yet as it will be my book to read whilst I'm on holiday. I'm really looking forward to reading it. There is a specific book of the Labyrinth as well as some troll and other Fae themed books I may pick up later as the art is lovely.

Anyway goblins are quite easy there is a fair few across many ranges that can make up the ranks of the goblins however a heroic themed team in the same style is a little bit trickier. Now I bought some Stonehaven Dwarf's off Lord Siwoc a while back and Stonehaven then recently have released some Gnomes after a successful kickstarter I thought a few of the Gnomes would make the perfect adversary's for the gobbos. I managed to snag a few off Ebay to see what there like in the flesh and they are quite nicely sculpted and remind a bit of the Gelflings from the Dark Crystal.

The main source of Goblins and Dwarf heroes will be from Northumbrian Tin Soldier and there new Night Folk range of miniatures which are perfect for a bit of fun skirmish gaming. These have gone straight on the to get list just because they look such fun figures hopefully I will be getting all of the current range later in the summer after I come back off holiday.

Various Characters that make up the range so far.

These are the Questing Knights they are also part of the range. Recently painted here by Loki of Loki's Great Hall

They can all be found here.
Northumbrian Tin Soldier Nightfolk Range

Here is just a fun character I've done for the project so far I havea female Gnome Articifer that's been started as well. Here is the Gnome Long Gunner that I finished this week he's slightly miscast where the mould has slipped but its only really noticeable in these head on pictures. There won't be many ranged weapons but some rifles and pistols here and there won't hurt. I quite fancy a go at making some of the crazier Goblin stuff from the Labyrinth some of the machines and stuff but we'll see.
