7TV Second Edition.

I've had a little bit of involvement with the second edition of the 7TV ruleset by Crooked Dice mainly did a bit of beta testing for it earlier in the year played some solo games and co opted my good friend Pulp Citizen into a couple of games. The most recent one being last Tuesday.

The Beta rules are available free to playtest still though I think an update is due as they are starting to finalize and lock down everything ready to go into production with. The rules themselves are a printer friendly version but include everything you need to play the game with the exception of miniatures and dice :P

Free Beta Rules

The new game engine is more slicker and the characters all have there own playing cards which you can sleeve (mine are obviously printed myself) the cards have all the information you need to use them including the ratings (points cost) of the star or extras. Building up casts for games is a breeze now just pick a ratings total and then pick your cards and numbers.

Theres a lot less statuses now and it makes the game run smoother and faster because of it. Combat is all based on a strike roll vs a target defense stat. Both sides roll a d6 adding the defense then the attacker rolls a d6 adding the strike score and needs to equal or better that target roll to score a hit (or whatever the weapon does).

The game itself has a countdown deck rather than a set number of turns. Each Countdown/Finale card has a random event on sometimes a benefit and sometimes a negative. Typically on a 4x4 table you have 10 Countdown and 5 finale cards randomly selected from a deck. The finale cards at the bottom and the countdown on top. Each player as there turn comes about draws a card or if they choose to selects two cards but this makes the game end quicker.

Gadgets still play a part in the game and each side gets a random selection chosen from the deck at the start of the game.  They include pen guns, sleeping gas jet packs to name a few lol!

Players now use plot points this is generated by the total number of models in there cast divided by 2 rounded up and Stars and Co Stars add an extra point per character. These are then used to activate your characters increase numbers of dice rolls add bonuses, use gadgets play events etc. There are new leadership ability's and your extra's can be formed into units so that if there in close proximity you can activate a squad for half the number you would normally need. This is a great mechanic and adds a tactical edge as you deploy and move your casts across the table. You also have a pool that you can build up from turn to turn so saving precious points for when you really need them.

Winners are resolved by victory points for capturing objectives, injuring/removing Stars/Co-Stars from play and victory conditions dictated by the scenario's your playing. Each Scenario also a Directors cut involving a Maguffin counter (story telling device thanks for letting me know what it was Pulp Citizen).

The game we played the other night was around 40 ratings played on a 3x3 (roughly) table with my new industrial terrain.

The Heroic cast and the Attackers in the scenario we played.
Flamboyant Agent
Dependable Deputy
Angel of Justice
Marksmen
Army Soldier Squad with Corporal (5)
Marksman
Army Dog Handler and 2 Attack Dogs

The Villainous cast and the Defenders.
Evil Mastermind
Mad Scientist
Double Agent
Metalnaut
Failed Experiment
Minion Squad with Commander (7)

The scenario we rolled up randomly was 'The Hit' and Pulp Citizen as the Villainous cast chose to defend. As the Defender the Villains gain a VIP extra who they had to defend and I as the Attacker had to take down the VIP.

The game ran quite smoothly and we only had to refer to the book a few times and things were quickly resolved. The game lasted around 2 1/2 hrs and was a bundle of laughs. Final score was 8 victory points to 5. Pulp Citizen's Mad Scientist managed to annihilate my Flamboyant agent and disable and later take out my Angel of Justice (Capture bubble) as well as capturing 3 out of the 5 objectives. There was some great cinematic moments with the mad scientists timely use of a jetpack, climbing suckers and capture bubble gadget cards.

I managed to axe (break) the Villainous cast by shooting all of his minions despite several returning to the table with the Evil Masterminds endless minion star quality.  I literally nailed the VIP on the final turn burning through all my spare plot points to boost my soldiers rifle shots netting me some vital victory points in the final turn though that was cut and dry as the Evil Mastermind used a medical kit to negate the first hit!

I need more weird stuff especially for the Heroic Casts I've dug out some scientists and inventors to paint up for them. Expect to see plenty of 7TV Spy Fi themed stuff in the coming months as I have been bitten by the bug at the moment :)

7TV Second Edition is now up for pre order from the Crooked Dice Webstore its planned release date is early January sooner if possible. At the moment the pre order has a 20% discount on the boxed game as well as upto 50% off some themed starter casts for it which include a number of figures that aren't released as yet but planned for later in 2016.

The Preorder is open until 29th November 2015.

I've got the pre order of the boxed game in and I ordered some extra counters to play bigger games. I can't wait until January as usual from Crooked Dice it will have high production values and the books will be full of awesome photos and fluff.

You get all you need in the starter set, rules, character cards and counters and dice all you need is figures for the theme of your choice :)

The Starter casts that won't be available at this price after the pre order.

Rising Eagle Society R.E.S (Villainous 7TV cast)

Was having a sort out through my box of 7TV Spy fi etc themed stuff the other day and I have some figures that I though nah I'll never get around to using those. But then I was watching some episodes of The New Avengers (Well old but you know what I mean) mainly The Eagles nest and The Last of the Cybernauts . The brain then decided to spin up and a plan started to form.

Some Spoilers Follow Sorry

The Eagles Nest
Steed investigates the death of a colleague while Gambit witnesses the kidnapping of Professor Von Claus. Purdey scuba dives to the remote island of St. Dorca, where a monastery hides a secret and Germany's greatest treasure. (Basically the treasure is Hitlers body in cryo sleep who they plan to resurrect with the kidnapped professors help).

The Last of the Cybernauts.
Double agent Felix Kane is horribly disfigured while being chased by the New Avengers. A year later, Kane forces Frank Goff to breathe new life into old Cybermen left in storage by Goff's former employer, Dr. Armstrong. Further more, Professor Mason is kidnapped and forced to apply the Cybernaut technology to rebuild Kane's body so he can exact his revenge on Steed, Purdey and Gambit personally.

So the plan is to have a mad scientist who has put the frozen remains of Adolf Hitler into a cybernetic body. A Sadistic lady assassin. cybernetic soldiers and then of course minions.

So at the moment the star will be a mad scientist Dr Heinrich Von Oetker is the man doing the building and placing of Adolf in a cybernetic chassis. Who I also found and have painted up already painted up in a blitz on Wednesday Evening. He can obviously use gadgets and has some sort of Alien or experimental pistol as a weapon. The miniature is from Killer B Games and is an MJ-12 Agent from the Preview range.

For the Sadistic Lady Assassin and partly what sparked the idea off of wondering what faction to use her for I have started painting this lovely lass from Statuesque miniatures Pulp Alley range.  Its a fab sculpt I also picked up the Captain Wolf and Minerva pack all glorious sculpts and fab crisp castings.

As I said looking though my collection I have a Metalnaut who 'vaguely' .........coughs looks like a cybernaut  but I also think is wearing attire a lot like a Gestapo agent in the movies.  So I think another of these will look suitable menacing. flanking the Professor.

Now onto minions I am not sure what the plan is for these I'm in two minds at the moment I have always liked the Federated Security that Crooked Dice do. The heads obviously meant for a sci fi show won't do as they are so will get replaced with balaclava heads also by Crooked Dice as shown below on the Fed Sec commander. Then when I uploaded this pic it dawned on me the two Mutaints (the females on the left) would make perfect She Wolf types but obviously the helmeted heads don't go. Soooooooo the idea is to replace the heads with daredevil heads they remind me a bit of the Elite Guards in the PC game Return to Castle Wolfenstein. So what do people think. I want to avoid just using WW2 models as they don't quite look right.

The Far right one has a long plait which you can't see here.

Ideally I'd love miniatures of these.

Dept X agent and Squaddie

Couple more figures completed off the paint table this week that have been lingering there for far to long. First up is an unnamed department X agent for when extra characters or small missions require a lesser well known person to take part.

The second is another squaddie in civvies ready to join up with the rest of my agents. Toting a Sterling smg he adds a bit more firepower to the undercover operatives that I already have done.

Have been slowly going through my  Spy Fi collection adding in eyes and touching up some of my older paint jobs. I don't fancy re-painting them all from scratch so adding eyes that I was to scared to seems to have worked well.

The Wild Ducks are now no longer blinking from the flash!

7TV Kung Fu Brother

I was writing up some casts for 7ombietv a few weeks back and was basing them around a travelling Soul band so I could use my 70's Soul Section. It got me thinking because I wanted some extra figures but not armed with guns as such. Soooooo did some googling and came across Killer B's 'Geezers Shut it!!!' range for there 70's cops n robbers type games. They had a lot of useful ideas in there alot of rifle armed militia and then I saw the Kung Fu Brother and that got me thinking.

Now back in January I started picking up the odd pack off figures from Artizan and Copplestone KKBB ranges to use for conversions. See Jaws, Tee Hee and Mr Wint and Mr Kidd by clicking on there names.

Anyway I picked up a pack of Henchmen from Copplestone which has the Oddjob in and I though oooo I could do a head swap with an afro head I had in the bits box. But then I looked at the face and thought maybe I could just add the Afro hair do as the face could work quite well as an African American. So thats what I decided do added an Afro to Oddjob and here he is really quite please how he turned out. The real bonus is I can use my other spare Afro head for another figure :-D

The Whole Soul Section. These have had some touchs up painted in some eyes and what not.

7TV Pandora King MKII

Not satisfied with my first attempt with this lovely figure. The release of Hugo Solomon and Pandora King in a pack together gave me the excuse to pick up another Pandora. Decided to stick with the black cat suit this time and had a lot of fun painting her up. Grrrr eyes I really hate eyes!!!!!!!!!!!

7TV Female Agent

It was the littles one birthday yesterday and we had a build a bear party which they both and there friends all really enjoyed. Exhausted but managed to find the time to finish another miniature that has been sitting under-coated on my paint station for a long while is this lady. Another member from the Copplestone Castings Future Wars Corporate Babes 2 pack. I've now finished four out of the five ladies just need to decide on what colour to the clothing/hair on the last one.  I'm certainly going to pick up the first pack just because they are so nice to paint up and everyone likes choice for gaming.....

I had a bit of play and tried to some blue eye shadow it looks OK. I need to invest in some better brushes any recommendations?

Some pics of the other three girls. I may strip and repaint them at some point though.

7TV KGB Hitman

Still undecided on the 15mm Exterminators, I'm thing dark green, In the mean time Decided to paint/convert some mofre figures for 7TV. I Got this guy free from when The Assault Group did a free give away via a Facebook promotion. This guy is a Chechen Sniper from the Special range normally you can get them if you buy £39.00 of there products in which case you can choose a free figure. There was quite a lot of great choices but I decided to pick one I'd get the most use out of.

For a list of all the figures available click here.

My main use for him is going to be for 7TV as a Hitman to go with my KGB faction. Saying that though I think he would work with any modern setting and would make a good survivor for zombie games as well.

I thought at first the Dragunov Sniper rifle would be to 'modern' for for 7TV but after a look at the wiki it was first manufactured and put into service in 1963 so would fit the era well. Not so sure about its availability on the normal market but I'm sure there are plenty of Russian weapons in peoples personal collections (not in the UK obviously) that I could ok it use in zombie gaming.

As You can see he mixes in well with Copplestone Future Wars and Copplestone KKBB range
