Rise of the Machines!!

Continuing the sci fi theme we have various robots/droids finished this week. First up from Crooked Dice we have Mean Machine part of the Apocalypse range and one I've had since the Apocalypse Kickstarter way back. Of course he can be used in sci fi settings and he has a bit of a bounty hunter look about him.

As more of a character figure I added in some brass detailing here and there and tried a blue wash on his pistol. Finishing it with a silver drybrush and some gold plating.

Copplestone Casting Future Wars FW15 Terminator Robots. Chunky sculpts which I love and useful for both Spy Fi and Sci Fi. I got these ages ago for another project which I have forgotten about but could easily be used as in an Argonauts cast or Killbots in 7TV Apocalypse.

I painted them pretty similarly to Mean Machine without the brass plating and after a wash of dark tone liked how they looked. I painted there weapons in US Grey/Green and as an after thought gave them coloured shoulder joints so I can differentiate between them on the tabletop if needed.

  1. Great work on all your robots Simon, the little pops of extra detail and colour really give each an individual feel

    1. Thanks Dave. I did think about leaving them without the coloured shoulder pads. But that would of meant having to make and use a load of tokens so just went ahead with it.

  3. Super work. I like the different shoulder pad colours to help ID them.

    1. Thanks MBG I felt that the shoulder stood out less than say a stripe down the head or something else similar.

    1. Thanks very much Dai! The sculpts show there age in some places mainly where there should be gaps between weapons and arms/bodies.

    1. Thanks Dean yeah I love the sculpt a lot. I think it was done by Shane Hoyle of which I have quite a few of his figures.

  7. Great work on Mean Machine, his leather jacket is really well done. The terminators are really good and the shoulder colours are a good idea.

  8. "Mean Machine, reminds me of "Nick" a robotic PI from "Fallout" - great paint-job
The extra contrasting detailing on the terminators makes them 'pop' just that bit more too.

    1. Hi Joe. Yes very much so I suppose Nick Valentine is a great character in F4. I keep meaning to go back and run through the companion side quests with him and complete the game as one of the other factions.

    1. Cheers Doc M, Yeah they are nice sculpts. I keep looking at the older grenadier ones but I think they are slightly smaller.

  10. The blue washed pistol (that was finished with a silver drybrush and some gold plating) looks really good.

  12. Given the ratings cost of Killbots in 7TV, you've probably got a 30 rating cast in those six models.

    Looks great.

    1. Yeah indeed. Not sure how well they would activate. But If I remember right I think they have loner so could work.
