This one has sat basecoated for a while waiting for me to feel in the mood to try and paint on a tartan pattern on his kilt. As I have been using my rust and orange paints I did the fur on him and then finished him off this week whilst working on my Thundercats and Star Wars stuff. I think it looks ok from 3ft away. The main bit that I struggled with was the sash around the body. as its different width caused me a bit of an issue maintaining the pattern. I also feel that the base colour needed to be darker perhaps but I also wanted him to match up with all my other squirrels.

Excellent work Simon, and I think you have achieved a very convincing tartan
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave. I think there need to be a darker colour for the base maybe. I think what I struggled with was the sash around the torso. Its wider in some places meaning the pattern had to be extended but at awkward angles
DeleteLooks fab from here mate. Your tartan is very nicely done - I've yet to attempt tartan and am avoiding it for fearing of fecking it up badly! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love this sculpt and mine is sat primed waiting for me to paint until I have a few more of the Highlander sculpts to make up a theme'd warband.
Cheers Dai. I followed the guide that was put up on the Kickstarter page.

Ahhhh lovely work here sir!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I'm so in love with this one! The pose is fantastic, but it's your paintjob what brings the mini to life! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber yes this was one of my faves. There is an awesome Highland Squirrel in one of the Redwall books called Rakkety Tam and he is kind of an ode to him!
DeleteLovely figure and great paintjob Simon!
ReplyDeleteCheers Phil!

ReplyDeleteThanks very much Ray!
DeleteFantastic look Squirrel mate
ReplyDeleteThe tartan looks great, and the orange you've achieved is spot on.
