AVP Project is go !!!

Well I have started my 15mm Aliens Vs Predator Project. It includes Colonial marines and when I can decide what figures to use Corporate mercenary's as well. Some other Alien races may participate not decided yet the galaxy is a big place and you never now!  (Khurasan have some seriously cool Tigers and I quite fancy some GZG Aliens/troopers as well Armies Army Neo Brits!

I've finally got a scheme for my Khurasan Exterminators that I'm happy with. The first batch are nearly finished. Painting 15mm has been a bit of a learning curve on the next batch some steps will be missed out which should make painting them a bit quicker.

Here is a couple of quick WIP photos took this morning. theres still little details do bit of metal here and there and suit lights etc. Basing is still a bit hmmmm at the moment. but I most likely decide once i've got the other 10 Exterminators the 20 drones, the queen and my 3 Predators painted. Oh and 2 sentry guns :)

Haven't though of rules but considering maybe tomorrow's war as there new supplement for it has peaked my interest in it.

Any suggestions or tips please pop them in the comments as 15mm is very new to me i've never ever dabbled in this scale before.

Lets hope this weather continues its super!!

  1. Jesus 28 mm is small enough for me as it is. Would never paint anything smaller 28 mm. But good luck to you, looking forward to seeing the end results.

    1. Thanks Ray, theres a lot of choice in 15mm these days and being cheaper its easier todo those little projects that would be expensive to do in 28mm.

  5. They are looking good so far. And I am confident they will be Fab when finished.

As for bases that all depends on the game board.

Rules wise there are several choices and it all depends on what you want the game to play like, skirmish or big battle, Interior of a base or out in the sticks etc. I look forward to seeing what you settle on.

  9. 15mm figures aren't so bad to paint. Just like 28's, only less detail required. Don't bother with eyes, only do 1 level of highlighting (maybe not even that), use dip or an overall wash to bring out details.
The main rule of painting - neatness - still applies!

    1. Yeah I use two shades of brown on the fatigues/body armour and once washed with a dark tone ink it blended them lol. Will just whop on a basecoat on the next ten, ink then drybrush then do all the little bits :D

  13. You're not going to fall into the 15mm abyss I hope. I like the colors you.ve picked for your marines.

  15. Don't use Dip, it's messy, there's no control and you'll hate it.

What you need to do with 15mm is really crank up that contrast by lining in either a black or a blue black. I use Vallejo Ink. You can get away with just two levels of highlight, but you've got to take mix that final one up to a near white.

You can use washes if you like, but I hate them, even on 15mm as they just "muddy" up your base colour.

I just did two 10mm Jackalopes and used lining, whites and 3 layers of highlights to get my detail out.

    Have fun with 15mm!!

  16. I loved painting my 15mm and while they're nothing special, here are my tips:
-Forget everything about painting 28mm miniatures :P
    - One wash and one highlight are more than enough
    - Keep in mind you won't stare at them from a thumb size distance

Keep it simple. I am seriously considering going back to 15mm considering the prices.

    1. Thanks mate. you make a good point about the distance its the reason why i used a brighter colour on the weaponry to make them stand out a bit more.

  17. Ah Luke, my boy, at last you have come over to the dark side, where your eyesight disappears in swift fashion......or at least, it does when you get to my age! Nice to see you've taken the plunge and , incidentally, made a damn good job of it!

  18. Great work there Simon and can I suggest Stargrunts for the rules and the best thing is that they are free to download from GZG. Also as an added bonus you get some of my earlier illustrations in it too :D

  19. Hi Nathan, they will stay on 1p bases its more whether to sand, flock, etc and what colours at the minute.

  20. Yes! another person trying out 15mm, good on you for having a go, and to me they look pretty sweet, great job, I also have a set of these and Aliens too match, I will have a go at these much later in the year, I hope.

  21. Looking great! You make these 15mm look like larger scaled figs. Best, Dean

  22. They do look great there and I think 15s are the way to go for scifi. Download the Stargrunt 2 from GZG website for rules as they are good and free

  23. Great stuff so far. I've got my 28mm Aliens and Preds together, but I'm looking for troopers. The kurasan stuff is really good, but I don't want to go 15mm.

    Excellent paint work as usual.
