Snorri Stoneheart Version 2

Yep thats right version 2!!! Another varnish mishap with Snorri Stoneheart and Tharzon Hammerfist (click the names to see the previous posts/versions) has mean me stripping them both to be repainted. There not exactly the same paint schemes as before some bits have been tweaked. Its took me along time to get around to re-painting this chap I'm not sure which is better but he is finished.

Snorri's background again.

Snorri  is a mercenary fighter of the Fist of Iron Adventuring Company. Since listening to his Uncle Tharzon's tales of ancient treasures, daring battles against Orcs, Goblins and other strange creatures when visiting the family hold. All Snorri has ever wanted to do was become an adventurer. Snorri has spent many years training with his two handed axe and wandering around the family hold hunting goblins he is now old enough and has decided to leave the family home and seek his own path. His proud father Grommel Stoneheart understanding his son's wishes and thirst for adventure has gifted him with his old suit of heavy plate armour to protect him whilst his mother has gifted him with an an ornate warhammer that belonged to her grandfather nick named 'Crusher' Snorri now joins his Uncle and the Fists of Iron on there latest adventures

I've had a play with colour washes over the finished metal. I though I'd do it over the hammer as if its magical or special in some way. Not sure to be honest painting up some other Fantasy themed figures at the moment so might have a play further on those.

  1. Varnish mishaps. We have all had them and it really is a pain but eventually we do get round to sorting them out. As for ink washes over armour. I have mixed feelings but I do them generally but with just black or very dark brown. For Magical weapons sorry no idea.

    1. Yes indeed! I think it hard to paint the same figure again. Especially when you think you did it so well the first time.

  2. He is much improved, Simon. Varnish mishaps are a real pain in the bum! You have my sympathies, mate.

  4. Love the look of the metal Simon, and that's a great orange you've produced for the beard. great looking model as a result. Vallejo do several metallic colours for magic weapons I think - I certainly have a blue(ish) steel pot for such things. Sorry about the varnish mishap - these days I brush it on for fear of frosting, but recently found the odd batch takes off any wash whilst brushing it on!?! Great repaint my friend :-)

    1. Thanks. Someone mentioned it the other day on my painting group I help run. I thought I'd give it a trial. I have a friend who glazed rather than washed a bunch of heroquest stuff and they turned out really nice.

It was brush on varnish. I'm guessing I putt it on to thickly and it being translucent was unable to see it. A few month in storage and it had misted in place but you could then almost see the drip. Ahh well it happens I thin the varnish down a little now. Hopefully I shan't have any more mishaps.

  8. Ah, can there be anything more heartbreaking in this hobby than bad varnish?
