Didn't quite get these finished on time for the weekends post. As I spotted some bits I missed like Carl's hair ffs lol. But they are done now and give me two more survivors to play the walking dead game. I am now upto 17 figures completed for the game out of the Kickstarter edition set though I still have plenty to go.
My original goal of 3 months was totally unreallistic so my new goal is to have the Kickstarter boxed set painted by the end of 2018. I really want to pick up more boosters and expansions but am holding back until I get at least 3/4 of the way through this set before adding to the pile so its not to overwhelming.
Anyway we have the main protagonist Rick and his son Carl finished off . These are obviously both quite early versions of them both. By the looks of it there are several Ricks spread amongst the boosters and the sets but no new Carl's as yet. I have another Rick to do but is mounted on horseback. Will be interesting to paint the horse as this isn't something I have done before. But as its a booster it a bit further down the paint queue yet.
I have also got a pair of zombies done as these were also part of the same row Rick and Carl. Its nice doing it this way as it gives you a fair bit of variety either zombies or characters you wouldn't necessarily paint if you were to pick and choose.
Nice! I’ve got so many of these to do, but they’re gonna have to wait till Zombtober
ReplyDeleteCheers dude. Your not the only one. I don't want to fall to behind so amuch using that to motivate myself to get them done.
DeleteThese look great Simon, really like the skin tones you've used on the zombies
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave. It's a really simple scheme I mix rotting flesh with a codex grey ish mix I made myself. Then just wash with Reikland flesh shade. Dot the eyes in and done.
DeleteAs always very good.
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil :)
DeleteSuperb paint jobs, Simon. I really must get my own TWD figures painted.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bryan. Do it! I know you'll crank them all put in no time however!
DeleteExcellent work Simon!
ReplyDeleteCheers Michal!
DeleteExcellent brushwork Simon. Love The way you've painted Rick's jacket.
ReplyDeleteThanks dude. Layers and washes mostly.
DeleteNicely done Simon! I could almost challenge you to see who gets finished first, you with the Walking Dead, or my finishing my last 14 Zombies from the core box of Black Plague...but then you will likely win!
ReplyDeleteOh lol thanks Terry. But I am sure you can manage 14 zombies before I get mine done.
DeleteAbsolutely top notch job on all four mini's Simon - inspirational stuff indeed! :-)
ReplyDeleteCheers dude. Glad to be of inspiration!
DeleteCool pair of pairs, nice additions!
ReplyDeleteLol thank you Suber a pair of pairs Indeed .
DeleteVery, very nice, Simon. Lovely colours with the blue and red contrasting nicely. Great stuff :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you dude. I lazily copied the studio colours with Rick and Karl.
DeleteThe Rick and Carl sculpts are not amongs my favourites, but you've done a superb job on Rick. Do you think they'll make another one-eyed version of Carl?
ReplyDeleteGreat zeds too, especially the very subtle gore!
Cheers Joe. Hmm I am not fussed on Carl so much if I am honest. I suspect the m16 toting version is coming soon ish. They are approaching that area of the comics.
DeleteYou may not have everything done within the timeframe you planned initially but you managed to produce a fine looking COOOoroorL tribute model just in the nick of time (Oh season 8 :( ). You have the right attitude about plans going south; Learn from them and set realistic goals and don't beat yourself up over them. I'm down to my last few wave 2 models and like you won't be rewarding myself with new models until I get things done. Looking great and keep at it.
ReplyDeleteYeah same here plus with me If I have to much todo then It hangs on me and I don't fell like doing them then.
Delete2 splendid figures all the better or your painting. I have them but as yet have to start them. maybe I can use these as inspiration to get mine done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Clint Sounds like a plan look forward to seeing yours!
DeleteBrilliant Simon! The colors really make Rick and Carl pop - and the eyes are perfect! I won't even attempt them and most that I see attempted usually turn into a Marty Feldman-fest! The skin color of the walkers, that's exactly what color I'd like to achieve.
ReplyDeleteCheers Ivor I just copied the studio jobs using my own colours. The Walkers skin is quite lazy really.
DeleteBasecoated a light grey primer. Rotting Flesh mixed with Codex Grey as a flesh base. Wash with Reikland Flesh all over. Paint the eyes in white and done.
Gore is just blood red mixed with a bit of leather brown so it looks less fresh.
You've certainly cracked the leather jackets.
ReplyDeleteCheers very much. I can't tell you how I've done it though lol as I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteGreat work! Man you can really hit the eyes just right and those flesh tones on the zombies are perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks dude. They may look a tiny bit different to normal 28mm minis but they are nice to paint.
DeleteVery nice. Got these figures to paint up, myself.
ReplyDeleteCome to think on it, I've still to properly open up and check out the boxed game...that I received last December. Doh!
Lol get cracking! I am sure you will have them painted before me!
DeleteGood looking minis mate. Easily identifiable as the characters they portray and those zeds are damned cool. Been resisting this game, but seeing posts like this makes it harder.
ReplyDeleteSo much more of a fan of the comics than the TV series, so I'm glad Mantic chose that route.
I like both. Which is whats been the dilema for me as I had many tv versions done. But now got into the comics so now have both lmao.
DeleteExcellent additions to your collection, Simon! I have to admit that I haven't followed the series in some time though.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean. I think both the show and the comics are rather good. But i tend to prefer to watch them in chunks.
DeleteOK, i finally figured out how to get back to your blog after making it here once; I find google plus to be confusing and hard to navigate. But I have you on my blog roll now so I can keep abreast of updates.
ReplyDeleteGreat miniatures and paint job! Great blog! expect comments from me more often.
Thanks Stew and likewise. Yeah I kind gave up on G+ I find I can't get me head around it and organising following of blog posts seems mish mashed.
DeleteGreat job Simon though you might want to gouge out Carl's right eye for some added realism ;) Nicely done! :)
ReplyDeleteCheers dude. I am sure that version of Carl is coming soon judging by where they are with the release schedule.
