Star Wars Legion Rebel Trooper Upgrade Expansion

Hi everyone! What a scorcher mid July has been! I know its turned a little cooler this week but such is typical of British weather! I only did a few bits of painting last week in the warmer weather as I couldn't be bothered after being at work all day. I only managed the odd half hour or so before going to work each day with the patio doors open whilst it is much cooler! Still on the Sci Fi kick I have been chipping away at some of my Star Wars Legion Backlog.

I grabbed these a few weeks back after spottng them on Amazon and still having some credit left from leaving present. So I decided to get a set to give me some variety in my Rebel Trooper units. I didn't realise however upon opening the set, that this expansion comes with a trooper unit card as well having special weapon or blaster options for the 3 regular troopers. If I had known I would of done these sooner as this gives me my third required Corp unit for playing the main game. I'd need to stretch the other two units a little but thats fine as you only need a leader and 3 troopers for a minimum size unit of Rebel Troopers. I may pick up a second set of these and use the alt blaster arms on them all.

These were far more fun to paint than I though they were going to be. I think them being all different species and requiring different skin tones etc is whats made them far more interesting to do.

I must confess not seeing this species before but they look distinct thats for sure. This is an Ishi Tib Trooper Captain upgrade and replaces the regular unit leader.

Next we have a Theelin armed with a DLT-20A rifle a sort of long range blaster weapon. The Theelin species is the first one I am familiar with from the movies as one of the singers in Jabba's Palace is one. Googling images for references seems to indicate there are quite a few in the Star Wars Cartoons.

This is an Ithorian or Hammerhead another I wasn't really familiar with but I love the look of this guy and after doing some googling really enjoyed painting him up. He is armed with an SX-21 which is a sort of close range shotgun type blaster.

The Gran Trooper Specialist gives you a bonus card slot (I need to look it up exactly as I haven't gotten my head around this part of the rules properly yet) I loved doing this guy I can remember having the action figure as a kid. Though I think he was part of Jabba's guards on the Skiffs from memory.

As you can see they mix in quite well with the troopers that I have already finished.

  2. Great work Simon, they all look perfect to the reference, there is 2 Ishi Tib in Jabba's palace but they are always a background creature. the Ithorian is from the cantina scene and is seen sitting at one of the tables, Ree Yees was in the throne room, and can be seen cheering while Luke is fighting the Rancor, and is also on the sail barge.

    1. Cheers Joe. I am really please with how they mix in with the existing human Rebels. I definitely want more Aliens in my forces going forward.

  5. Fantastic Simon! There are so many interesting races that were created in the Star Wars verse. The possibilities of adding more species is endless! Just a shame they went with the scale change for this system.

    1. To be honest. I nearly got Imperial Assault and then when this first arrived I was unsure about the scale as well. But as I have no other SW stuff in my collection it doesn't bother me so much now. Especially with how much 3D Printed stuff is available.

  8. You hadn't heard of Hammerhead? I'm shocked.

As well as the one in the cantina, there's a brilliant Ithorian Jedi in the original Clone Wars cartoon shorts who fight General Grievous' guards during the 'kidnapping' of Palpatine.

    1. I haven't got that far into the Clone Wars yet but I shall look out for them. I have seen some cool looking 3d prints for the Jedi version amongst a couple of others.
