Thug, Henchman or Agent.

Whats seems like ages ago I picked up a pack of the Copplestone Castings Gangsters with the intention of adding some more suited and armed characters for 7TV mainly to use as KGB or the nameless CIA agents you sometimes get in the films/tv series. So I picked up the Hired Hit man pack as 3 out the 4 figures are armed with pistols and the last has a tommy gun (he's going to be painted up and sent to a friend).

Here's the first figure out of the pack of four he's certainly more sinister looking in black so will more likely find his way to a villainous cast. Quite a quick paintjob in the end undercoat black, drybrush in grey darken the bigger black areas with a wash of black ink. Block paint the black back on to the big flat areas leaving the grey pickded out by the drybrushing. Then painted the gun/cosh and flesh.

Work is slowly progressing with my Dept X Soldiers theres 11 under going painting at the minute. I have 3 German Shepherds to paint but need to look up how to paint there fur.

More various agents being paint up. John Steed MKII has arrived big thanks go to Clint from 'Anything But a One' for that by picking up for me from Broadside and posting it to me.

  1. Very happy to help mate. And many thanks for the back link. You are a gent sir>

As for the figure I can't help thinking of Indiana jones and the Gestapo character who burnt his hand in a tavern in Tibet.... You know the chap in the first film. With that in mind very characterful and idea for all evil casts and gangs from 1880's to present day!

    1. Thanks Clint your very right I'd forgotten about him. I'll have to get some of Artizan's German agents to go with him.

    2. I was thinking of "Herr Flick" from Allo Allo, but yes he does also resemble Major Toht from Raiders.

  3. Clint is right, Gestapo! I would never think of it by looking at the photo on copplestone's site - what can a black do to you, eh? :D

I like how you did black, nice toned down highlights. I never know how I should do the blacks to make it look "right".

As for fur, I'd say black base and drybrush some greys or browns. I never seem to be able to find the right brown for highlights, but overall, fur looks nicer when you don't work too much on it :P

    1. Thanks mate he does look like a German now doesn't he!

Blacks easy mate two coats of black, drybrush with a grey, wash with black ink. Then block paint the black pain into the big areas leaving the drybrushed grey on the edges as highlights. Job done :D

I found a link on C'mon with various German Shephards markings on it.

    2. German shepherd the dog, doh...don't ask me how my first thought was an actual shepherd from german hills...I was even wondering why you'd need any of those!

That is a great page, even has highlights nicely done. When I was painting my 15mm german shephard I was looking at the actual photos, but that doesn't work well for me :D

    3. LOL yes the dogs not people. I have three to paint but want them to be similar so that you'd recognise them but not the same.

  7. Great work on the all-black attire. Very ominous presence - is that a stick of dynamite in his left hand? At first it appeared to be a Bible and the guy looked like a dangerous priest. Best, Dean

  10. This guy has "Nazi" written all over him! I guess he's wearing gloves because he's fastidious about touching people?

    1. He He I'll have to portray as a star or co-star in his own cast at this rate his background is coming along nicely

  11. He looks very nice, Simon!
I'm slowly amassing mobsters myself. With the terrain already built and all my cowboys, I can easily do "last man standing" scenario before the year is out. But only because I have no samurai or terrain to set up for the original movie!

    1. Thanks David. That sounds very cool I'm using this fella for 7TV mainly apparently as a Nazi agent who doesn't like touching people with out gloves on
