Zomtober 2014 Week 3.5 Hasslefree Laurie

Having painted up the zombies in my possession. I've now turned to survivors.
First of the painting table Is Laurie by Hasslefree miniatures. Loved this sculpt ever since I saw its greens. Have been looking forward to getting hold of it. Went for a totally different colour for the bow purely as I thought a camo bow in brown and tan would seem to on purpose the blue/grey looks more like a scavenged weapon. Laurie will also get added to my other low tech armed survivors for Across the Dead Earth.

Need to get my other survivor finished for the weekend its A Walking Dead themed Wargames Factory Male Survivor conversion. Watch this space come Sunday.

  1. Lovely work Simon. That green is so subtle and the bow looks super. Like the idea of her just grabbing a sports bow or something from a store or some such place. As an aside I do hope you don't have to lie down in all that slime to take these lovely pictures of yours? That is some serious algae :-)

    1. Thanks. Its the remains an old concrete post base the steps it was attached to was remved. The concrete is absolutely rock solid I can't demolish it in fear of damaging the fence post its attached to!

In all fairness it not so much slime but green lichen and it had rained. It gives a good effect for the photos though :D

  6. Can't really go wrong with a Hasslefree miniature, can you :-) ?

I'm going to go slightly against the flow here: the figure looks really great, but I'm not at all sure about the bow. I think I'd have gone for a more traditional plain colour, or for a very fine-patterned green/grey/brown camouflage.

    1. Thanks. Each to there own is not what I was trying to get the figures story to be. I wanted it to look like it was found by accident not purchased or selected by choice.

    1. Thanks very much I really enjoyed painting her. I have a few more Hasslefree miniatures in the queue to paint up. Some are stripped figures I had previously though so may be familiar to some.

  9. Spot on mate. While the bow my not be everyone's taste I think it looks great. Definitely a scavenged bow.

  12. I love both the colour of the bow and that of the figure, spot on brushwork; I'm unsure though if I like the figure's posture or not.

    1. Thanks Joe. The pictures are a bit hard to show its sort of twisting and drawing an arrow at the same time it looks great to me dynamic but not silly.

  18. Excellently done Simon. Got to say you've done a good job on the miniature and I'm definitely wanting one myself.

I'm still painting zombies for Zomtober - though I've now got a new blog and new username (the google+ damage was too great to repair, as I just couldn't reply to messages). Hopefully I'll be able to post pictures before month's end and show off my zombie horde.

  19. Very nice use of colours ... the green, neutral brown, blues of the bow and her hair colour all combine very well.
