Penguin Crew Reinforcements

At the Barrage show I picked up a couple of extra's for my penguin crew. Thug set 3 gives me Blue Penguin Axe* and the Conqueror Penguin. Its another 50 rep to my existing crew bringing it upto 248 rep $800 leaving me a bit of change for some gear. I have a game against Pulp Citizen on the 12th August so they will get there first outing then.

Blue Penguin Axe (several Blue penguins all equipped differently yet others have there own names lol) Its an odd pose the figure comes in two pieces the main body and the right hand with axe. The vents were a pain in the ass to remove in the axe shaft theres is a nick of metal that came away when filing it down. Also the left hand is smaller in size to the right.

The detail is quite delicate on these figures I am struggling to paint them up to my usual standards I feel.

The Conqueror Penguin who has his chain and comes equipped randomly with a frag grenade. Decided to go with Purple sports gear to help differentiate him from the other Elite Thug the Penguin Emperor.

This guy was fiddly as hell to assemble he fitted well together I didn't have to file away as much as I did on some of the others. Though I did fear the chain might snap. Again the tabs on the chain are in awkward spots and fearing damaging it to much I left  bits attached. The Conqueror comes in 3 pieces Body, Head and arms attached to the chain which you have bend gently to position the arms with the body. I pinned everything on just because I didn't want to knock him over and have to bend everything back together again.

These guys come with a newer style bases. Its a 30mm slotta but there is no recess instead its has rocks, soil molded into the base. Quite a nice feature I filled in the slot with milliput as usual and textured it with a nylon brush and it blends in quite well I think and is still quite sturdy.
The Whole crew so far.

I've ordered Thug set 2 (Savage Penguin and Ice Penguin) which adds another 50ish rep and I've also got Mr. Freeze which will bring my crew up to 375 ish so for most games which are 350 rep i'll need to drop a thug out.

I'll have some a Necromunda themed post mid week I need to get some stuff fully assembled and I'll be doing a post about that. Its been a chaotic but better week this week a big thank you to all the well wishes on my last blog post. Hopefully normal service can resume :)

  2. Great job Simon, although just hearing how fiddly he was to put together is putting me off just at the moment.

    1. Cheers the axe thug is a doddle. Its just feeling like your going to break the chain when positioning the arms to attached the body.

  3. Looking good. It's nice to hear somebody being positive about the new bases.

Just something to be aware of, Conqueror and Emperor are both Elite, and you technically need an Elite Boss to have both in one crew.

The Elite Boss in the Penguin crew is Sickle (no idea why it's not Cobblepot). Not a problem for friendly game, but just thought I'd flag it up.

    1. Thanks Kieron. I'll have to try and remember that. I've not picked up the rulebook yet as playing with Pulp Citizen. I want Sickle anyway so he'll be on the list to get.

  4. You're doing a terrific job with these Simon, and although I have a good few of these myself, I'm continually pushing them to the back of the queue on account of the fiddly problems I see you've been having with them (amongst other bloggers). Great series of posts though and I personally don't think your usual high standard of painting has suffered at all on account of how difficult these minis are to assemble.

    1. Thanks Simon. Really the only way to get on with them is to just crack on and get them done.

  5. A suitably menacing pair of villains. I cannot bring myself to do any Batman wargames so I am living vicariously and enjoying your collection immensely!

  7. Great looking rogues, Simon. As far as the delicate sculpting - I have a similar issue with Raging Heroes.

    1. Cheers Dean. I think its more irritating is the price of them for what the end product is like.

  10. Excellent work mate. Despite the fiddly-ness of them you have done a cracking job. :)

As for the Elite rule that Kieron correctly mentioned, I am more than happy to waive that! I didn't realise that was one of Sickle's functions to 'unlock' that - I'm happy to play the crew with the extra Elites. :)

    1. Cheers Dude I didn't realise either. I saw in his stats it said Elite boss but I thought it meant you could take more than one Conqueror or Emperor Penguin.

    2. Yeah; unfortunately the Bat-Builder does not limit them either.

    3. I'll get Sickle at some point anyway :)

  14. Impressive crew already. The models you just added look pretty skinny in some of those side shots. Or is that just my imagination?

    1. Thanks buddy. All of the figures I have seen are like that its the scale/size. Though lately its been mentioned the sculpts are quite flat or 2D in look.

  15. Well done, Simon. The group shot looks great.

Something of an odd pose on the blue penguin.

  17. Those figs match Infinity for detail. I like them very much, though shudder at having to paint them myself as well as you have.

You need some Tim Burton Penguins with rockets strapped to their backs to make this crew complete!
