Ripper Street Series 3 Cancelled by BBC

Absolutely gutted this show is bloody brilliant. Great stories every week, great actors fabulous settings and period clothing. Why did the BBC move it to a Monday prime time slot when I'm a Celebrity  (well they wish there were) is on!

Quite frankly its a rubbish decision by the BBC we need some decent drama not the constant celebrity has been crap. Please sign and share this petition!

  1. Same thing happened, if I recall correctly, to the Hungarian version of Breaking Bad. TV bigguys sometimes need to be smacked a little.

  2. I love Ripper Street, so i was dismayed to read this announcement. Naturally, I have signed the petition. I totally agree with your own comments, Simon.

  3. I heard a rumour earlier in the week. But this has really pissed me off. I don't watch much TV but I stop everything to tune into Ripper Street every Monday at 9pm

  4. I agree the switch to Monday was stupid, but it would have struggled against Downton if it stayed on Sunday. A delayed start to early 2014 might have been better. If there is a petition I will sign it.

  5. Pap sells better to the masses than quality does and they know it. I watched the first 2 seasons on the Netflix and had a year to wait on them. I was willing to wait another year for season 3 as the show is that good. Give them a good smack for me.

  6. Too busy splurging all the licence fee payers' money on their celebrity chefs and crap comedians.

  11. Same problem on our side of the pond, Simon. The folks who run Hollywood, for the most part, aren't in touch with mainstream good taste, IMO. Best, Dean

  12. I cant stand any of these 'reality' TV shows and celebrity garbage - its just 'pap' TV as I call it (Purile and Pathetic)... gives us decent period drama anyday..., and by that I dont mean 'soaps' either!

  13. Such a shame! Great programme, stooped choice to end it.

  14. It's the only thing I watch on BBC, consider it signed!

The BBC have a mandate to produce TV for minorities, so if there's a minority who like decent programmes we're in with a chance. :-D

  15. NO! Really enjoying the second series! Too expensive, probably, when you can bung a group of members of the public in a tent and have them make scones for massive ratings!

  18. On the up side...early cancellation of a quality show means that you don't ever get the fall off of quality as writers struggle to come up with new ideas. Ripper Street will forever be as good as it is.

I know that doesn't help much but I'm in an optimistic mood today.

I'll go and sign the petition too though.

    1. Thanks there was some good feud being set up with inspector Shine I can't help but feel there won't be a conclusion to it now. There so much they could still do with it.

  19. Tragic news. It was nice to see something that was set in Victorian London that wasn't a romantic period drama! I think the 19th century dialogue was a bit hard to take at times, but overall a fun series in a different setting.
    I've signed the petition too.

  20. Netflix, movies, and documentaries for me...if at all. Reality TV isn't and most cater to the lowest denominator. There is a true dearth of creativity in film.
Probably why I read and wargame for my leisure!

  21. I like Ripper Street, but it strains my believability at times with plotlines I consider to be weak at times. The outside sets too are becoming very familiar. With a bigger budget this could have been a jaw-dropping series.

    1. I suppose but I enjoy the visuals and the storys though probably do strain believability at times. Its still far better than the drivel that is regurgitated in various soaps and other shows that is put on the box.

  22. OMG! My wife and I love this series. Oddly enough, when we watched Copper and heard of RS we were afraid it'd just be a ripoff of Copper. Now, we actually prefer it to the Copper series. I've sent the link to my wife to put it on facebook, and am off now to sign it too.
