Across the Dead Earth Games Night with the Creator

Apologies I totally forgot about getting around to doing pics.

I got invited over to Rich Chappell's house for a game of Across the Dead Earth last night with him and another beta tester Tom. We played a 3 way loot game Rich had Adam's Family from the main rule book, I had my Stour Raiders who were tweaked and beefed up to a 350pt list (bit more gear and skills) and Tom played a bunch of despicable raiders called the Defilers who shot everybody to bits!

The Stour Raiders pretty much WYSISYG mainly got upskilled and the odd bit of gear added

There were some comical moments with Redrum bouncing a grenade which landed at his feet and removed himself from the game right at the start both mine and Rich's medics bouncing up and down for a few turns from being knocked out and then getting back up again and healing themselves. My Leader beat up Skylar and rather than attack chose to push her off a 2 storey building only for her to survive the fall!

Some choice card plays had Rich moving loot counters to a building near his deployment area only for my leader to sneak in and nab it all near the end only to then get taken out by Rich's teleporting medic in the final turn and the loot snatched from my leaders prone form! (I took Skylar down with my Leader Rich played the Medic! card instantly moving his medic to Skylar's position he then revived the her and blasted my leader at close range with his shotgun ouch) this cost me the game pretty much as both my other gang members where to far away my Medic had been took out a few turns before (he lost the get up get down scrap with Ezra's Rich's medic) Rich nabbed the loot and despite Tom using the Taunt card forcing Skylar into hand to and combat with his spikey ball on a chain guy she managed to disengage from combat next turn and escape!

In the end I had 2 dead gangers with 3 down the others where pretty much the same shape. I think we all killed 3 each and when the loot counters got flipped over this pushed the points up and Rich came first closely followed by Tom and me laggin behind with no loot at all!

The game lasted about 2-3 hrs (breaks for donuts) and despite it being a 3 way game the rules and initiative handled it really well and you weren't left waiting around doing nothing. Some things came to light but its nothing but tweaking a few things as well as some ideas for more event cards.

I got to see some of the figures in the flesh and they will mix really nicely with all my other figures including Hasslefree, Rogue and Studio miniatures so I'm really looking forward to receiving my miniatures and rule book come October (providing theres no delays and it all goes ahead as planned)

  1. It does sound like it was an exciting game that went back and forth, with no-one knowing who hadwon until the very end.
Shame you left your camera behind.

  6. Sounds like a great game - bouncing grenades and pushing people off building hee hee.

" with his spikey ball on a chain guy" - a morning star? I'm horrible but this sounds like a came I could be interested in all of the sudden lol.

  7. I've never jumped in on a kickstarter however I'm beginningt to regret not taking part in this one. I've wanted to play post apoc for ages yet have never been that taken with the games out there, a but too mad max for my tastes.Shame you didn't get any pics, maybe next time :-)
Oh and I posted my first comment via my phone and autocorrect turned it into gibberish!

    1. It has to be the 'right' one I've done a big one (Empire of the Dead) with an established company and this is my second one but with a newly established company ( I am kind of helping beta test rules so kind of knew a bit more about what's going on behind the scenes).

I don't think I could back a kickstarter that is plastic and has just got renders to show. I've seen to many kickstarters where the product shown in this form just doesn't translate to the final product and people are disappointed.

  9. What is the world coming to when you push an enemy off a building and they *survive*? Is nothing sacred!

    At least you had doughnuts...

  11. I am partial to post apoc games with a wide variety of melee weapons. I'm not really sorry I missed the kickstarter though I was satisfied with the one I participated in I'm still not sure how I feel about them. Though if you keep up with these reports I buy the rules when they come out.

  13. Cheers for the report Si! It was a great game and no-one really knew where the advantage lay (as the value of Loot is known only to those who are carrying it unless it changes hands) and I genuinely thought I had no chance at the beginning. Came up with a new Skill option and Event card in the process too!
Same time this week I reckon.
