Happy Star Wars Day folks and May the Fourth be with you all.
Right got that out my system! It has been a funny few weeks in the Brummie household last week I was off on annual leave with the kids being off and it was fantastic break. This week has been a pain getting back into the routine of early starts and the school run (had 2 weeks of lie ins!) I came down with a cold last Friday which for some reason has had me full of snot and unable to sleep properly as it seems to get worse when I lie down. Returning to work has made it worse as I've just felt so bloody tired this week not been about the internet much and not been doing my usual tour of the blogs which I will make some effort to catch up with today hopefully. On the mend now just a little bit bunged up but sleeping normally thankfully!
Hobby wise the German bolt action force have pretty stayed the same still need to clean all the mouldlines of them. Not picked up the paints or additional models I need for them yet which may have to hang fire for a couple of months as need to save cash up for holidays (had to replace the cooker and washing machine in one month ouch! So rather than start painting them and then have them gathering dust have boxed them up to get out later in the year.
I've done very little else apart watch films and catch up on some tv series I've been meaning to watch.
One that has caught my eye is Penny Dreadful which is starting out on Sky Atlantic in a few weeks time. With Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Billie Piper and Josh Harnett to name a few Its got some interesting characters in it and the story so far is very intriguing (You can find the first episode kicking around the internet I think it is a teaser episode that was released in March or something)
Timothy Dalton as Sir Malcom
Josh Harnett as Ethan Chandler
Danny Sapani as Sembene (from the character intros on youtube I'm most intrigued by this chap so much so I'm on the hunt for a miniature to convert lol)
Harry Treadyway as Dr Victor Frankenstein
Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray
Billie Piper as Brona Croft (Not seen in the first episode)
Its set in Victorian London and has a fantastic cast and seems to be borrowing bits here and there from the classic tales such as Dracula, Frankenstein. and using them in a new way and weaving them together. Monster wise it has Vampires so far and Werewolves/demons are hinted at thus far but there's a lot of mystery to the characters. There is as lot of super natural occult elements with taro cards and seance's and other strange things going on and there was plenty of action in the first episode along with a great deal of mystery making you want to know more!
It has very much has put me in the mood for my Empire of the Dead (which I really nearly got rid of last month but was talked out of by my friends) as its runs along a similar theme. So much so I've started finally painting some of the Requiem figures! Only a handful so far I have started a Wulfen Jaegar faction using one of the Limited Edition figures (Tom Gaunt) as the leaders and some of the Gentlemen with guns figures making up the gentlemen members. I got given some old Marauder war hounds alongside various other dog breeds by a mate so the three Warhounds have been based up for my Jaegar faction which brings the starting faction upto speed and gives room for expansion later as well.
I also built my LOTR Ruins that I won in a blog comp they went together rather easily as expected though the require a lot of cleaning up of mouldlines etc. They need undercoating so they can be dry brushed at some point in the week.
The Dark Side has visited this blog page ... ahem. Just found out about this star wars day, this morning ... never heard of it before.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, hope you kick the cold asap, Simon. Really stinks when you're feeling rotten with something so trivial as a cold bug, and women never seem to understand, nor are sympathetic ; )
I've dropped my blog (so that's one less for you to catch up on) and am just running the page thingy that you saw the other day. Cheers for the +1. I'll keep checking out peoples blogs and offering moral support where needed.
I ain't got Sky, so please stop teasing me with shows that really sound interesting.
: ) Roy
Oh Noes there are other ways if you know where to look :)
Deletei'll keep an eye out then - probably make it to freeview Picktv in about 5 years time and i'll see it then. That's how I'm only just now seeing battlestar galactica : D
DeleteMay the fourth be with you Simon.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear you are painting your EotD figures, really liked the background stuff you posted on BotLL.
Still can't find alleged Bolt Action zombie rules but maybe this will interest you: Zombiekrieg 848 a free download of zombie vs soldiers based on Geheimkrieg by Wessex Games. A dark science WW2 game.
Thanks for that mate. I'll try and dig them out and send you a link.
DeleteI was planning on watching PENNY DREADFUL, since I follow all possible period set shows, but after I saw the trailer I changed opinion. It's too bizarre and sick for my taste
ReplyDeleteHmm I have watched the first episode I don't think its sick no in the sense of SAW sick but it has horror elements certainly.
DeleteI want to watch Penny Dreadful, it was made here in Dublin and Wicklow, I was on one of the sets in my local park, iit was a wild west side show..
ReplyDeleteCool I saw that in the first episode!
DeleteGreat trailer !
ReplyDeleteCheers .
Hadn't heard of this. Looks excellent!
ReplyDeleteoh dear, that does look good.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling positive about the Victorian stuff again mate. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks ;)
DeleteI for one am glad you have kept the Empire of the Dead figures. I have not as yet seen this advertised. As I do not get sky Atlantic I wonder if I ever will get to see this, madmen, game of thrones etc. But at least I can watch out for it. Thanks for the heads up.
ReplyDeleteIt looks rather good Clint. I'm sure it will reach mainstream tv.
DeleteSorry to hear that you've not been well old chap. Hadn't heard of Penny Dreadful, sounds like just my sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is up your street sir! Feeling much better this weekend
DeleteMy wife is looking forward to this so much and it looks very interesting too as for me it reminded my of EotD too. Chap I am glad that you didnt get rid of them too as I love the background and figures that WW are doing.
ReplyDeleteI think its perfect for ~Empire of the Dead its got me back in the saddle with it anyway :D
DeleteHope you get feeling better!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing you kept your steampunk figures! You'd probably have talked yourself into purchasing them again if you had sold them! ;)
Cheer mate yes indeed I would be kicking myself!
DeleteThink I'm gonna watch that myself,
ReplyDeleteGlad your back into you EotD stuff, looking forward to seeing more of it
Cheers it looks good from the first episode I've seen so far.
DeleteThat looks like a series well worth watching, Simon. But as usual, I'll have to wait for the DVD boxed set to come out before I can see it.
ReplyDeleteI only found out about this week Bryan. It will be worth the wait from what I've seen so far.
DeleteGlad you're on the mend but you're right it does look and sound good!
ReplyDeleteCheers mate its certainly got me intrigued!
DeleteSounds interesting though I may have to wait a while till Penny Dreadful hits NZ airwaves... glad you didnt get rid of your EotD! Must admit my lot is on the back burner at the mo' but not forgotten...
ReplyDeleteYou gave be quite a scare when you said your where giving up EotD my local opponent felt the Requiem rules to be a letdown too but that's no reason to abandon so a background. There have been subway (pardon me "tube") posters for this here for a month i certainly hope it gets the bad taste of that Dracula show out of my mouth.
ReplyDeleteThat should be "me" not "be" sorry.
DeleteSounds like a show I might be interested it. Shame you had an illness during your vacation. Happens to me quite often too.
ReplyDeletePenny Dreadful does sound like a series I'll be watching, it'll be a nice replacement for "Whitechapel" and maybe it will be the spur to continue with your Victorian gaming.
ReplyDeleteThank for very much for introducing the show on your blog, I stumbled upon your post recently and started watching, and I must say this series is probably the best I´ve seen this year (haven´t watched much, but this is still glorious!)
ReplyDeleteYou rarely get a show these days that invests so much time into character development, the main characters have inspiringly deep (and dark) background and the acting is fantastic!
Only downside is that you notice how bland other shows these days have become after watching this.
Thanks for bringing it to me!
