This weeks WIP

Well this week you can guess i'm working on the Across the Dead Earth figures. I've cleaned them moldlines where tiny and very few. Trimmed away the bases on three then I was a bit worried about how secure the figure to the base would be but I think they will be fine now the putty has dried.

 Before Putty
 After Putty!
 Now Undercoated

These are Lord Siwoc (Johnny's) fault as he brought up getting loot counters made and having far to much putty left over I had a little play. So we have 3 bin bag types. 3 guns and ammo and a stack of tin cans. My only dilema with these is how to add the value of the loot counter without people being able to memorise what the value is in games past the first. I'm thing I'll just have separate counters and stick these over the top just as eye candy. I need to make some more but will probably rob some bits from the WGF Survivor sprues to adds some more modern weapons and bits in. What do we think?

  1. How about this: first player to investigate a loot counter draws a chit for the value. This chit is then placed under the loot counter so that others can discover the same thing later?

Alternatively, the value of any loot is only assessed at the end of a game. That rifle you thought worth fighting for might be broken and useless, whilst the ratty backpack might contain useful medicines? You never know until you have leisure to assess the loot properly...

    1. Yeah that's a good idea. It has to be picked at random at the start only because part of the loot scenario is bluffing the other players into thinking your counters are worth less or worth more :) because the point value of the loot gets added to your points for kills which decides the victor.

  2. I agree with Colgars second suggestion. That being you grab what you can but in the heat of battle you don't get a chance to asses it and inspect it. That comes when the battle is over.

Looking forward to seeing how the figures come out once painted.

    1. They are both good. The first fits in with the current rules better though.

  3. Great start there Simon and I am looking to seeing these painted. As for the loot counters, paint a number on the bottom and each game write down somewhere what each loot is.

  6. Looking good, Simon. Surely your loot markers are merely a representation of what MIGHT be there, not what IS there. Both of Colgar6's suggestions are good ones, although I prefer his second suggestion.

    1. Thanks Bryan. Yeah possibly its fun picking up a 30pt loot counter then pulling a face and pretending its only worth 5pts fooling the opposition and them thenignoring you carrier and going for other counters instead. Especially one that may have changed hands and more than one player knows the value of.

  7. The Loot tokens are failry easily distinguished with a sticker on the bottom.
To determine the value of each token you'll need, a single suit from a pack of cards for each.
So if you decide the value using a d6 then use the Ace to 6 of a suit , draw a card from the 6-card deck and write the value on the base of the token.
That particular deck then can't be used for another token.
For more than 4 tokens, a different card deck, with a different back will give another four tokens' worth.
Backpacks, suitcases and bags would also make good tokens.

    1. Thanks for the suggestions. There are backpacks and water bottles I think on the WGF survivor sprues so I'll do a couple of those.

  10. Looking good. Consider adding short snippets of brass rod or wire to the bases of shooting models to present spent cases. I did that with my 15mm paratroopers and it should only look better on larger miniatures.
