S.D.Z.A Superhero Dinosaur Zombie Apocalypse Game.

This is a labour of love being started up by one of my best friends Drew Wood or Doctor Warlock as he is known in many places. Its his own label and is in the processing I've writing and testing his own rule system as well commissioning his first few sculpts for the game system.

I'm actually really quite excited about this game system its got a lot going on for and a lot to attract people who like a wide variety of genres.

S.D.Z.A. (Superhero Dinosaur Zombie Apocalypse) is a miniatures range (and eventually a game) set in a world that's tearing itself apart - its not a dystopian future, its our world - here and now, But a version where the shit has truly hit the fan.

The Dino-Parks were a vision of the Uni-Tech corporation (the business that funded the research) for the future, a vision of them making a LOT of money, they no only saw Crichton's novel as a gateway to providing the holiday experience of a lifetime (and charging a ridiculous amount of cash for the privilege) - a lot of the Technicians and Scientists involved in the project saw it as a way of potentially ending world hunger.

The only problem was finding a way to get the long dormant Dino-DNA to combine with modern donor tissue, once that was achieved - using accelerated growth cloning techniques (though illegal, Unitech still intended on using ANY resources available to achieve their goal) - they used the DNA and Chemical make up of a Virus as a "carrier" . . . . .

R.D.S. Virus (Reactive De-evolution Syndrome Virus) - and its attempted Cure, has led to all sorts of problems. Mutants with Human and Dinosaur traits roam the barrens outside the surviving walled cities, totally rejected by society - unlike their more physically accepted Mutant Brethren dubbed "Primes" by the Government. Carrion wander in formless bands preying on the weak and defenceless, and the Ghoulish Giaour feast of the flesh of Carrion and Human alike.

The world of S.D.Z.A. is a world rocked by revelation, a world where Dinosaurs roam free, Zombie outbreaks are a common and ever increasing threat, Mutant Superheroes fight to keep the status quo, and Mutant Super villains seek to end it, Hunters and Freelance Dinosaur Wranglers rub shoulders in seedy bars selling their services to the highest bidder., Rich Industrialists seek to solve the problems they created whilst holding onto their wealth and power.

A world similar to our own, but distinctly different - THAT is the world of Superhero Dinosaur Zombie Apocalypse. Some will insist its a dystopian view of the future, it's not - its our world, here and now. But a version of it where the shit has truly hit the fan.
Some info on the factions involved so far.

Human Faction.
Unitech are the Corporation responsible for the Dino-Parks and the subsequent mess created - they can be played as either bad or good guys (depending on your own perspective.
On top of that you have Regular Survivor types - both those from within the walled cities and the "Redneck" Types that live out in the Barrens, these can be "mixed in" with Cops and Governement Types - Special Agents, the Military etc.

The Primes.
Our beloved Super Beings are technically split three ways, you have the Sanctioned Primes - these are your "Freaks Of Nature" Operatives, they can be included in with any "Good" Army, so Military, Government types, Human "Survivors", even Unitech forces.

The Carrion.
The Carrion aren't always your "predictable" Zombie faction - you might even see some humans mixed in with Carrion on the battlefield. There are Rednecks who have lived in the Barrens so long they've become cannibals and live alongside the Carrion - picking up their leftovers for food -they are basically a clan of modern Ghouls. The "Giaour" as they call themselves either function as "back-up" for Carrion Forces, or you can field a Force of Giaour and take a few Carrion as cannon fodder.

The Brotherhood.
The Brother faction is the most exclusive - and has the least "mix and match" potential. They are led by the children of the original Rebels who almost started the war between the Normals and the "Chosen" (as they choose to call themselves), the Brotherhood is made up of Primes (both lesser and greater) and their sympathisers.

The Dinosaurs.
Along with regular Dinosaurs, you have "Smart" Dino's who lead their brethrin and the "True Breeds" that are mutants like their more tragic brethren the Mutts (see below) but are evolved Carnivores rather than hybrids.
Mercenaries and Renegades.
Then you have those who call themselves "The Ronin" - the Ronin are renegade Primes who refuse to become sanctioned and be part of the system - some side with Humanity, others are violently opposed to the rule of man, and still others care nothing for anyone but themselves.
The "Mutts" are poor souls are those who through exposure to early versions of the R.D.S. (Reactive De-evolution Syndrome) Virus ended up as twisted fusions of Dinosaur and Human.
The Giaour name comes from the Epic Poem by Byron.

Onto the greens of the first few sculpts done by the talented Ian Mountain. These have been sent off to the casters for an initial run in resin and hopefully released in metal in early 2015.

Anyone wishing to order a copy or the initial resin release can send an email to

  1. Oh, I was wondering what all the fuss was about!

While I like the mutants and I like the dinosaurs, this game seems just over the top with everything for my "everything must be in order" type of interests :D

    1. Its not really over the top the factions wouldn't all be mixed together on the table at once unless it was some kind of multi player game. I like to think it offers people a lot of choice.

  2. Zombies and Dinosaurs. Zombie games just became better!

Ok I have mixed feelings but it did make me chuckle. As it stands It could be REALLY Naff. But there is a chance it could be really good. I shall watch this evolve!

    1. I think its pretty fun and gives a lot of choice. Its being written by Drew himself the fiction that he is writing to coincide it is excellent. When I get final drafts and the nod I will post some up with artwork.

The rules are still being fleshed out but what I've read of the basics so far seems pretty good and it will play quite well

  4. Hmm, it's missing out the Nazis. Oh, and Ninjas!

As a background, I don't think this is for me. However if those greens are anything to go by then I'll look forward to seeing what miniatures are produced.

    1. Its very much a mixed bag and that is partly intentional people then have choice and can create there own factions if they so choose the basic framework is then there to pick and choose.

The miniatures are awesome aren't they. I already have a dozen different conversions in mind for them.

    2. Don't forget this is global so a shady Corporation from Japan has potential

  5. This is just a bit too much of a mixed bag for me. I may buy some of the figures but I'm sorry, I can't see me playing this game.

    1. Some will love it and some it isn't going to be for them. This is more to make people of a cool project taking shape.

There will be some cool figures coming out for it which will appeal to some for other uses.

  6. I can understand the Jurassic park type theme, but it seems to have thrown in Superheroes and zombies to try and reach out to a bigger audience. As C6 mentions, it's just missing Nazis and ninja's, but I would have to add pirates, mutants, magic and aliens too for the complete gamut of genres. (I've probably missed a couple of obvious ones too).
The greens however look superb and will be no doubt welcomed by folk and snapped up !

    1. Its a fantasy setting in our time period you could say the same about 40K, warhammer fantasy battle, Necromunda, Deadzone or even dungeons and dragons.

      The greens are awesome.

  7. Oh. My. Eff. Can I have this immediately, please.

I love the fusion of genres and the only thing that could make it airtight IMO would be the option to take or leave what you, the player, wanted.

For example, only playing hunters vs dinos being a viable gameplay option without it harming the story (think I, Zombie from THW).

My favourite thing, though: I don't need an entirely new collection of miniatures to play. Smart move.

    1. You can pick and choose what factions you later like
There will be creation tools in there to make up your own characters and flavoured factions.

  10. Concept is interesting, the greens I love. I will watch with interest, if the price is right I would not mind if anything to get some of the supers for my Supersystem games!
