Batman Miniature Game Penguin Lieutenant.

Another addition to my Penguin Crew this time another Large release. The Lieutenant is a henchmen and weighs in at 50 rep which is expensive for a Penguin Henchmen. This guy is an awesome single piece figure. This guy is Large (more obvious in last pic) so comes on a 40mm base.

Stats wise he is upper Henchmen level Willpower 5, Move 2, Attack 4, Defense 3, Endurance 7 and the usual Special 3. Attack 4 is great making him hard to block and potentially dishing out 8 Stun.

Trait wise he has Large (obviously) adding various bonuses and a negative. Large means he can move 12cm basic instead of the normal 10cm. Cannot be pushed, grabbed or knocked down by smaller models, Can reroll endurance and recovery tests. Being large he adds +1 to pings for being big so a 4+ ping becomes a 5+ so more vulnerable to missile attacks.

The Lieutenant has a biker jacket (ignore the sharp rule) making it harder for enemies to wound successfully. Mobster which means he gets a free attack when outnumbering. Take Cover a nice boost to henchmen within 10cm when activated giving them all a Defense Counter for free. Reinforced gloves so his attacks do double stun damage and finally Taunt which allows him to move an opponents counters when within 10cm into attack. Useful for removing defense dice on models who have already activated and for messing with other peoples plans as you can move SC counters preventing flying or activating other abilities.

As a Henchmen he can be given equipment as well and Penguin has plenty of cash for extra gear. I am forming some plans with the original Penguin crew I had but need to think about the equipment a bit more.

The whole crew so far with Emperor Penguin. (Doh I forgot about my Titan Thug!)

Batman Miniature Game Emperor Penguin

Another batman character finished this week. This time it the Emperor Penguin a new leader character for the Penguin crew. I hadn't heard of him before . After his family was murdered he joined and climbed through the ranks of Penguin's establishment

Emperor Penguin real name Ignatius Ogilvy or sometimes called Emperor Blackgate was one of the Penguin's right hand men firmly becoming a favourite. When the Joker returned to the city Cobblepot was rounded up to help with his plan at Arkham Asylum. Leaving Ignatius in charge he decided to not just manage but to take over the Penguin's operation for his own ends.

Taking up on a debt owed him by Poison Ivy Ignatius used a combination of Bane's venom, Man bat serum and some of Ivy's own manipulation created turned him into a hulking blue monster of a man with superhuman strength and durability.

In game terms Emperor Penguin is very much a close combat character. Emperor Penguin's stats are very good he cost 111 reputation which is a big chunk but he is worth it. Willpower 7 and Strength 3+ is very good, Movement 3, Attack and Defense 4 are all high end. Endurance 9 is brill he can take some real punishment and the usual 3 special everyone gets.

The only weapon is a chain which has is single stun, has reach (3cm range for melee) and is heavy (increasing his strength to 2+ when using it.)

Traits are as follows, Fast allowing to reroll movement dice, Dirty Money adding $300 funding to equip/recruit people into the crew. Master Fighter gives him +1 to hit with unarmed attacks, Regeneration allowing him to recover 1 damage each turn for the cost of a special counter. Reinforced gloves meaning his unarmed attacks do double stun. Scheming 1 allowing you to hold back a character during the planning phase allowing you to work around your opponents plan. Finally he has tough skin which is -1 to damage rolls against him.

As you can see he is quite a tough package and totally different to the smaller Penguin leaders who require protection and are much slower. Allows you to get stuck in I am going to pickup Sickle the Penguin's bodyguard as he would suit this leader better being able to keep up with him and dish out the hurt in combat as well as potentially absorb some attacks from his bodyguard trait.

I am going to return to playing with a Penguin crew my grasp of the game is much better now and I now understand the idea behind the Penguin play style a bit better. Penguin's crew has weak henchmen in comparison to many other crews but has bonuses for chaining activations. This leader doesn't have it but both the Versions of Penguin (Comic and Arkham Knight) have the mob rule giving +1 to lets go meaning a Henchmen can activate straight after another on a 3+. Utilising radio's or keeping them near Sickle also gives a reroll to this. Most henchmen also have the mobster rule allowing them +1 attack when outnumbering someone. This will require a lot more planning on my part but I have though up some good combo's and as Penguin's crew being larger than most I can get away with activations still. Though my opponent will still get more passes but as there is no way of adding in Informer I can't change that either way.

Mr. Freeze and Ice Penguin

This week has been mental got drafted into a project at work with very short notice. Most days have been 12 hr days not leaving much free time.  I've not managed any more Zomtober stuff I hope to get some stuff finished at some time this week for next weekend.

I completed a few figures a couple of weeks ago but only got around to taking pictures this weekend.

Reinforcements for my Penguin crew a thug armed with a shotgun adding some more mobile fire power to the crew and then a Free Agent in the form of Mr. Freeze who brings yet more fire power and some resilience with his power armoured suit, freeze gun and freeze grenades (Plus I can shout Freeze Raaay! when he shoots!)

Penguin Crew Reinforcements

At the Barrage show I picked up a couple of extra's for my penguin crew. Thug set 3 gives me Blue Penguin Axe* and the Conqueror Penguin. Its another 50 rep to my existing crew bringing it upto 248 rep $800 leaving me a bit of change for some gear. I have a game against Pulp Citizen on the 12th August so they will get there first outing then.

Blue Penguin Axe (several Blue penguins all equipped differently yet others have there own names lol) Its an odd pose the figure comes in two pieces the main body and the right hand with axe. The vents were a pain in the ass to remove in the axe shaft theres is a nick of metal that came away when filing it down. Also the left hand is smaller in size to the right.

The detail is quite delicate on these figures I am struggling to paint them up to my usual standards I feel.

The Conqueror Penguin who has his chain and comes equipped randomly with a frag grenade. Decided to go with Purple sports gear to help differentiate him from the other Elite Thug the Penguin Emperor.

This guy was fiddly as hell to assemble he fitted well together I didn't have to file away as much as I did on some of the others. Though I did fear the chain might snap. Again the tabs on the chain are in awkward spots and fearing damaging it to much I left  bits attached. The Conqueror comes in 3 pieces Body, Head and arms attached to the chain which you have bend gently to position the arms with the body. I pinned everything on just because I didn't want to knock him over and have to bend everything back together again.

These guys come with a newer style bases. Its a 30mm slotta but there is no recess instead its has rocks, soil molded into the base. Quite a nice feature I filled in the slot with milliput as usual and textured it with a nylon brush and it blends in quite well I think and is still quite sturdy.
The Whole crew so far.

I've ordered Thug set 2 (Savage Penguin and Ice Penguin) which adds another 50ish rep and I've also got Mr. Freeze which will bring my crew up to 375 ish so for most games which are 350 rep i'll need to drop a thug out.

I'll have some a Necromunda themed post mid week I need to get some stuff fully assembled and I'll be doing a post about that. Its been a chaotic but better week this week a big thank you to all the well wishes on my last blog post. Hopefully normal service can resume :)

First Batman game thoughts.

Played my first game of the Knight Models Batman game last night with the good gentlemen Pulp Citizen. It was immensely fun and after pondering the game somewhat today plays in my opinion very much like the cartoons play out with various members being stunned and knocked out. One thing I'm learning is how many diverse enemies Gotham City has as a lot of these villains etc I'd never heard of before until this game came out lol.

It was only a small game I neglected to taking any photos sorry. We played a Plunder Scenario I took all my Penguin Crew (They got quite a bit of extra gear mainly because of Penguin adding on extra cash) vs Black Mask and his crew.
Penguin Crew

Penguin
Titan Blue Penguin
Royal Penguin (Ammo Clip, Nightvision Goggles and Grapple Gun)
Blue Penguin Shield (Titan Does)
Penguin Emperor

Vs

Black Mask Crew

(Totally forgot what gear PC took as we selected it at the time not beforehand)
Black Mask
Riddler
Goon 02
Prisoner 03
Prisoner 04

What I picked up about the game

The game itself is pretty cool its always set at night time so you characters only have a certain vision range. But whats cool is you randomly roll up a number of lamp posts at the start that give out a 10cm radius of light. If your character is in that radius then the can be seen from anywhere on the board. Also a quantity of  Sewers are randomly rolled for allowing sort of teleporting across the board but there is a 2 turn delay before your character pops up. Grates can be blocked as well.

Activation is determined by first drawing a token unseen from a bag and the colour determining who wins. They then get to choose whether to move one of there crew first or second etc. That person then moves a member of there crew and play reverts to the other player to move one of theres.

Only weird thing (well something new to me) there is a sort of planning phase before you start each turn where you pre allocate your Will tokens across Movement, Special Attack and Defend these allow you to perform various actions at a cost of said token. This is kind of cool as it makes it more tactical so your sort of restricted by your plan as to what you can do. Certain characters such as the Riddler has rules that allow him to adapt to the turns events as they unfold.

I found it interesting that there different damage types stun and blood. Stun you can recover from over time blood you can't. Taking either damage reduces your Will per so many points of damage you've taken effectively causing your characters to be fatigued. Shooting is fairly straight forward.

I quite like the Blink rolls you get when shooting at people. For every piece of terrain between you and your target you get to roll a sort of save to see if its deflected depending on the type of terrain determines what you need to roll. Hand to hand combat is fun as well depending on how you spend you will you can defend and block peoples attacks (rolling dice of course) which is cool as it gives the impression of people scrapping.

Victory conditions can take some getting your head around. You pick 3 objectives each at the start and these are deployed along a central strip of the board. Different types have different rules (Ammo you spend a Special counter to replenish ammo stocks, Titan Cannister a titan does etc) but possession (Base to base contact) of an objective generates you VP points each turn. Now I won the game on VP last night 25-15 I think but this was mainly down to me snagging to of my objectives early on bagging me 5VP a turn for 3-4 turns and then holding up a great number of Black Masks crew with my Titan Blue Penguin. Don't get me wrong this was my first game and it a learning curve as well as PC trying out different elements for his crew that might be being taken to a tournament this weekend. The game seems to be about scoring victory points and you do score VPs for taking down the opposition but not as many as you get for the objectives. I think in bigger games its harder as you can contest objectives more easier as well as defend your own.

I made my own objectives but you can buy official ones which I think you need for the Official Torunaments.

I shall certainly be getting more into the Batman game I think firstly I'll expand the crew up to 300-350 rep and I'm very tempted to start a Law and Order crew.

Penguin Crew Completed.

Well was a bit unsure of what to watch one of the nights this week so I stuck on Batman Mask of the Phantasm for a change and finished off all of my Penguin Crew.

I need to find the time to read up on this game as I am going over to Pulp Citizen's for my debut game of the Batman game in a couple of weeks time.

 The Penguin himself

 Penguin Emperor

 Penguin Emperor

 Titan Blue Penguin

Titan Blue Penguin

 Blue Penguin Shield

Royal Penguin

The Whole Crew so far

I need to make some objective tokens so I've also started on those though they require painting still I'm sure they won't take long.

The the markers are loot (Sack of cash), Ammo (the rifle and ammo pack) and Titan Cannister.

Doh just realised the ammo pack on the assault rifle has moved. I was intending on painting the tyre underneath first then gluing the weapon and ammo packs down on top lol.

Went to watch Mad Max: Fury Road on Friday night it was awesome It took until Saturday afternoon for my brain to finish reeling from what we'd watched. It requires a second watching I think as I'm sure there are bits I missed. Its visually stunning and I think its a great addition to the Max Legacy. The characters and factions are ace I'm sure there will be some fab models being converted from it.

Also if you love 80's movie I watched this yesterday afternoon its awesome and full of cheese but I loved it. I don't normally do Parodies but this amused me greatly its only 30 minutes long but I thought it was brill. Its NSFW btw due to the swearing.

Knight Models Penguin Crew Part one.

Thoroughly enjoying all the Salute posts today :) Some fabulous looking games and models coming out.

Hobbywise this week I played a playtest game on Friday night. I can't mention publicly much about it yet. Thoroughly enjoyed it some bits could do with being a bit more clearer to understand which has been mentioned but more on this later in the year when allowed to talk about it more.

Painting wise done a few bits here and there on various figures. Completed wise I got the first two members of a Penguin Crew for Knight models Batman game. Its only a small crew at the moment being the basic Penguin set with the addition of a Titan Thug to boost it to around 200 rep. I've not tried the game but I've read plenty of game reports and its another game I can play with the good gentlemen Pulp Citizen.

The first two finished are a couple of henchmen The Royal Penguin (Assault rifle)  and Blue Penguin (Shield). I have got to smooth down some putty work on a couple of the other characters then I can begin the painting on them also. The figures scale is 35mm which I've had a bit of difficulty painting mainly as even though they are slightly taller there features such as hands and faces are a lot finer.

Always been a fan of the penguin character in tv series and cartoon series characters.  I so wish they would do a Devito version but sadly I think there are IP issues with those movies characters. There are a ton of henchmen options for this crew. Which I hope to add to later in the year :)
