Vuvalini Fighter Raging Annie

Painting at the moment is all a bit random. I am mainly painting what I feel like doing at the moment so prepare for some randomness in the next few posts. Anyway another figure has been finished my ongoing Post Apocalypse collection and this one joins my Vuvalini or Many Mothers warband. I love Kev Whites sculpt and own many that he sells through his own business Hasslefree miniatures but I also love picking up the sculpts he does elsewhere for other people.

This is one of those miniatures sculpted for another range. Raging Annie is from Bad Squiddo Games and is a sculpture of the owner Annie geared up war fighting alongside her Ghosts of Gaia miniature range. The Ghosts though very nice are to sci fi looking for my tastes though I am tempted by a couple that I could convert perhaps. Raging Annie has more modern day looking equipment so fit in well with a lot Crooked and Hasslefree miniatures.

I love the little Squiddo backpack she carries. I painted it like the one on her website. I quite like the idea that really it is a sentient mutant or some such that warns her of danger. Protect her from being attacked from behind.

Armed with an Assault rifle, a machete and carrying a largish looking  hand gun she armed pretty well and has armour and lots of padded armour to protect her in the wasteland.

The band of fighters is growing nicely I have two more to add at some point but they are at the basing 'stage' in my prep amongst some other figures

Vuvalini Ranged Fighters

Didn't intentionally paint them in the order of melee and ranged but it just ended up this way. Its been quite a productive week. Besides these 3 I have nearly finished some more Walking Dead minis that have been lurking on the paint table for to long.

The first two are the remainder of the Crooked Dice Wasteland Warriors pack. I struggled with the hooded ones staff a little as its quite busy and it has no clear purpose. Is it a weapon, a detector of some kind a torch or any of the above lol! Again similar colours were used but I added in ochre into these with the signature red item or items.

The other one was more straight forward I added in some different brown more to differentiate her more from the Katana and staff armed one I finished previously. Originally I painted the M16 metal then changed my mind and tried to do it in black like the real life weapons would be. I am quite pleased with how it turned out.

The third figure finished is Virginia by Four A miniatures. Obviously it is based on Warrior woman from The Road Warrior. The bow doesn't quite match the movie representation but can understand having it like this is far easy to cast and more robust. I tried to match up as close to the movie as I could with what paints I had available. Again a spot of red to tie her in with the others. My only critique of her and Tina is I wish they had been a few millimetres taller.

All my Vuvalini so far. With my two Furiosa's (Crooked and Hasslfree)

All my Wasteland ladies so far I have a few more figures to do and a character if I can find the bits for would like to to try and recreate. It also depends on a parcel arriving from the US from my friend Johnny Grogan.

Vuvalini Close Combat fighter

The second of the Wasteland Warriors is finished off and is again equipped for melee fighting. Bringing my finished Vuvalini members upto 5.  I have the two remaining characters from the Wasteland Warriors pack to finish off. I have had some packages arrive this week some of which are for this warband some for others. I also have converted another figure for this warband but more on that once she is painted and ready to go.

I shall need some more figures with ranged weapons I think. Most only have small arms such as pistols. I will have to have a good browse around for figures to convert.

The gangs so far. Just about to be varnished by hand.

Vuvalini close combat fighters.

Been beavering away at this and that this week. After stripping, filing off moldlines and then rebasing I decided to take a brief break from the Copplestone bikers with the intention of coming back to them in a few week after finishing off some other figures.

I posted earlier in the year about my wanting to make a Vuvalini (Many Mothers) themed gang/warband. I have finished the a couple more recruits. These don't bare any resemblance to the movie characters. I intend on adding extras in that are perhaps past on or maybe new recruits after Furiosa takes over the citadel.

I am hopefully getting some long awaited Wreck Age figures of which a number have been reserved for this project. Though there are a few more on the website I hope to pick up also. Talking of Wreck Age version 2 has recently been released and I hope to take a further look into it as they have expanded the miniature ranges since last I looked and from the game play videos have streamline the rules some what.

They are both Crooked Dice miniatures the first one which is now OOP. However she has been resculpted to and has appeard again amongst the Wasteland Warriors this time equipped with an M16 and sporting goggles (she has been started also). This version is equipped with a katana and a staff. The armour is rather nice its sort of cobbled together mesh/leather armour. It was quite nice to paint. I am going to have to contemplate how to differ the next ones armour somehow. Perhaps painting it in the bone colour instead.

The second is from the Wasteland Warriors set (link above) I picked this one first as it inspired the Keeper of the Seeds armour plated and the scheme would be similar to hers. I opted for a black coloured hair as its something I can never quite get right either looking to grey or very flat. I tried mixing in some blue and highlighting the strands I think its turned out ok. But perhaps more pracitce is required.  This is a pretty nicely detailed model holding the baseball bat casually over her shoulder she has lots of nice pouches, bags, gas mask and water bottle.

The Four members so far Furiosa (Crooked Dice) and my converted Keeper of the Seeds.

Keeper of the Seeds (Post Apoc)

My Post Apocalyptic tastes have been tickled and it continues into 2018 with the figures being worked on at the moment.

I loved the Mad Max Fury Road movie. So many great characters and themes to capture the imagination for gangs or crews. One that has struck a cord with me ever since seeing it in the cinema were the Vuvalini or the 'Many Mothers' the clan that Furiosa belongs to and whom intends to cross the wasteland and seek out.

As no one makes any models akin to them I have pondered and struggled immensely to find suitable figures (well those that can be converted easily) So I have to compromise somewhat and I am making my vision of them with what models I can. The Crooked Dice Wasteland Warriors will form a big part of that so I am very grateful for these Female Warriors being sensibly dressed.

I am promised some Wreck Age figures from a friend in the States which will also add another couple of members and I am very much looking forward to receiving that package when it comes.

The Keeper of the Seeds is played by Melissa Jaffer in the movie and is a cool character who is looking after the remaining seeds left after the land turned marshy and no longer able to grow plant life anymore. (pics of just her were hard to come by.)

Left to right Valkyrie Keeper of Seeds and unamed Vuvalini (there were 5 without name)

A nice drawing showing the skull she use as a pot testing if the soil is any good.

As you can see they are quite wrapped up for desert travel. There is nothing I can find that is similar enough. Without having to do major Greenstuff work to achieve anything like it hence why I am going to be going for a likeness rather than exact.

So first up is Keeper of the Seeds. The base model is Madge by Hasslefree miniatures. I had painted her as a zombie hunter a long time ago and recently last year I stripped for a repaint. There she sat until I had the idea to user has as Vuvalini.

First off I trimmed the shotgun barrels down into a sawn off. I left the stock as I didn't feel confident enough to re sculpt the coat that would be exposed underneath. I had some spare bags from another Hasslefree miniature in the bitz box so filed it down and bent it slightly to fit the small of the back. Luckily there is some sort waist band that once painted looks like a belt.

I was just going to leave it at that but wasn't happy with the hair being exposed at the back. I then decided to sculpt on a hood bringing it around to the front. I then decided to add in some material to use as googles having her wear them. Which was easier than trying to sculpt them on top of her head. Finally I added some shoulder pads to take it a bit further away from the padded coat. I added on some sort of totem leather tooth thing from the Frostgrave Barbarian Sprue as some sort of trinkets or tresaures. I wanted to add another weapon but then realised I had no sensible place to put it. It then twigged where I could put one and I found a water bottle from a WW2 sprue in my bits box with a grenade and knife on. I trimmed off the knife handle and stuck in the top of the boot.

Painting was quite quick I stuck to similar earth tones. With just a spot of colour here and there as decoration and working on the lenses of the goggles which have changed colour several times until I figures out what I had not done properly.

I also made an order this week for the Wasteland Warriors (Those Post Apoc ladies in my last post)  on the Crooked Dice site LINK as soon as they were available. So I am eagerly awaiting them to arrive in the post and looking forward to getting them painted and added to my Vuvalini. Whilst I wait I am trying to keep up the momentum and have worked on a couple more Raider figures that have been lingering for two long in the to finish pile. More on those when they are finished.
