Finished this chap off on Sunday night finally after he lingered around on the paint table for far to long. Still not sure on the skin tone but calling him done. The figure is from Micro Art Studios Wolsung range 'Abinav Singh' I named him simply as Singh after a similar character from the film 'The Wolfman'.
Work continues on the zombies for Zombtober. I also have converted a WGF Survivor for my final Zomtboer weekend entry.
Well these are the first of my Empire of the Dead Requiem kickstarter figures. I've had these figures on the painting table for 3-4 weeks got inspired to do create a Wulfen Jaegar Faction (monster hunter themed faction) after watching the trailers and first few Episodes of Penny Dreadful.
I had a slight interruption in painting them as the ATDE figures landed on the painting table and jumped the queue to the front. Now having finished 3 out of the 4 figures and nearly finishing the last one I decided to get these completed and off the paint table to clear a bit of space.
Now I'd really like to of got the Westwind Vampire Wars ones but I have far to large a leadpile of EOTD and saving cash for holidays means painting what I've got for now haha!
The faction itself gains a bonus to combat and a negative to shooting only a +1/-1 to there stats but I figured in all the movies they always seem to have a fair few guns. Of course these are all painted as individuals as they can also then be mixed in with all my other gentlemen clubs etc.
I've picked the Tom Gaunt KS exclusive figure as the club President (leader) just because he looks cool and has all the right gear. Mr. Gaunt has a whip, stake and a groovy shotgun type weapon and also has some rather large shells in a bandoleer across his chest so I've painted them with silver tips for yep you've guessed it to use as silver bullets.
Next up the Vice President this is from the gents with guns blister This chap anyway has a repeater rifle figuring his slightly lower shooting skill can be compensated with firing more shots. All these figures are part of the Gentlemen with guns set.
Up next are just two standard gentlemen members one equipped with a shotgun the other with a Volleygun. I really love the volleygun sculpt in the game it can lose off 5 shots in a volley but only the once. Perfect I figure for blasting werewolves and the like.
I have 3 large hounds that are on the painting table but at the moment I'm in to minds as to whether to try and paint them with Rottweiler type markings or do them in a tan colour similar to my Otherworld Warhounds.
(I really must track down pics of the retail packs as they split this set in two from the KS having the two man portable gatling guns in one blister and the other 3 in another but adding a fourth member to the blisters but theres no dam pics on the site yet of the mysterious gentleman with gun and what weapon he has!)
Happy Star Wars Day folks and May the Fourth be with you all.
Right got that out my system! It has been a funny few weeks in the Brummie household last week I was off on annual leave with the kids being off and it was fantastic break. This week has been a pain getting back into the routine of early starts and the school run (had 2 weeks of lie ins!) I came down with a cold last Friday which for some reason has had me full of snot and unable to sleep properly as it seems to get worse when I lie down. Returning to work has made it worse as I've just felt so bloody tired this week not been about the internet much and not been doing my usual tour of the blogs which I will make some effort to catch up with today hopefully. On the mend now just a little bit bunged up but sleeping normally thankfully!
Hobby wise the German bolt action force have pretty stayed the same still need to clean all the mouldlines of them. Not picked up the paints or additional models I need for them yet which may have to hang fire for a couple of months as need to save cash up for holidays (had to replace the cooker and washing machine in one month ouch! So rather than start painting them and then have them gathering dust have boxed them up to get out later in the year.
I've done very little else apart watch films and catch up on some tv series I've been meaning to watch. One that has caught my eye is Penny Dreadful which is starting out on Sky Atlantic in a few weeks time. With Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Billie Piper and Josh Harnett to name a few Its got some interesting characters in it and the story so far is very intriguing (You can find the first episode kicking around the internet I think it is a teaser episode that was released in March or something)
Timothy Dalton as Sir Malcom
Eva Green as Vanessa Ives
Josh Harnett as Ethan Chandler
Danny Sapani as Sembene (from the character intros on youtube I'm most intrigued by this chap so much so I'm on the hunt for a miniature to convert lol)
Harry Treadyway as Dr Victor Frankenstein
Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray
Billie Piper as Brona Croft (Not seen in the first episode)
Its set in Victorian London and has a fantastic cast and seems to be borrowing bits here and there from the classic tales such as Dracula, Frankenstein. and using them in a new way and weaving them together. Monster wise it has Vampires so far and Werewolves/demons are hinted at thus far but there's a lot of mystery to the characters. There is as lot of super natural occult elements with taro cards and seance's and other strange things going on and there was plenty of action in the first episode along with a great deal of mystery making you want to know more!
It has very much has put me in the mood for my Empire of the Dead (which I really nearly got rid of last month but was talked out of by my friends) as its runs along a similar theme. So much so I've started finally painting some of the Requiem figures! Only a handful so far I have started a Wulfen Jaegar faction using one of the Limited Edition figures (Tom Gaunt) as the leaders and some of the Gentlemen with guns figures making up the gentlemen members. I got given some old Marauder war hounds alongside various other dog breeds by a mate so the three Warhounds have been based up for my Jaegar faction which brings the starting faction upto speed and gives room for expansion later as well.
I also built my LOTR Ruins that I won in a blog comp they went together rather easily as expected though the require a lot of cleaning up of mouldlines etc. They need undercoating so they can be dry brushed at some point in the week.
Felt better towards the end of this week but the first half of it was crap as the cold disappeared but the cough ramped itself upto to one of those irritating feckers that starts off as soon as your head hits the pillow.
First up is is Set 7 221b Baker Street and this comprises of yep you've guessed it Sherlock Holmes and friends! This set comprises of (top row) Sherlock smoking a pipe and a choice of empty hand or his violin. The Good Doctor with revolver (this has to be my favourite version of Doctor Watson) Mycroft (Sherlocks Brother) Sir Henry Baskerville and Mrs Hudson. (Bottom Row) its a nice characterful set. I've received the PDF last week as well but still need to have good read and digest what's in there as its quite packed with new stuff. Though some characters still seem to be missing from the rules from the quick glance I've had.
Set 8 Nemesis Criminals continues the Sherlock Holmes theme with various characters from the novels. Top row we have Irene Adler I love this miniature in her left hand she carries a set of brass knuckles whilst in her right her pistol is a multi barrel pepper pot type. Next up is the master criminal himself Moriarty its a nice sculpt I'm not so sure about the angle he's wearing the hat at though but that's just my opinion. Last in the top row is Colonel Moran again with another lovely rifle. Bottom row has some of the lesser known characters from left to right we have John Clay (The Red Headed League), Doctor Roylott (The Adventure of the Speckled Band) Jack Stapleton and Selden (Both from the The Hound of the Baskervilles). Again I need to have a read through the rules as various characters from this are split through some of the new factions. I think these two sets can lead up to some fun one off scenario's based around the tales told in the novels.
Close up of Miss Adler's excellent pistol
Other prep has begun and I've based all my Police miniatures total of 20 bases done. So thats a fifth of the Requiem KS based. I'm undecided on undercoat at the moment I have some white spray that I may use but haven't made my mind up about it yet.
Been mega busy this week at work instead of four men there's been two of us and I've had a cough/cold that's meant any time I that I have had to sit down to paint I cough every 5 minutes so no painting this week grrr. So I've continued to clean up some more of the Empire of the Dead Requiem Figures. I'm unlikely to start painting any of these. We have a painting group on facebook called Carry On Painting there's going to be a painting competition starting in the new year to paint a unit each month and to support/egg each other on. The Prize being a painted army etc by the end of it. Feel free to pop by and join in. This will obviously go with my other challenge which is to see how many Requiem figures I can get done in four months. I think this month being busy especially with Christmas coming up I shall spend it getting the figures cleaned prepped and the bases puttied ready for January.
First up we have Set 5 Order of the Dragon. Top row we have Vampire in bat form as you can see its quite a big chap. Next up the madman Renfield, Thrall with man portable Gatling gun this figure has a sword strapped across his back as well its a lovely sculpt and one of my favourites. Bottom row we have The count himself and 3 of his brides Teliaska, Darla and Curshinka. They're all really nice sculpts the only thing that bugs me about this set is the sitting figures in game terms this kind of gives them an advantage as they are obviously smaller targets when trying to shoot at them. I think I'm going to have them sitting on a big rock or something just to boost them up to normal height to make it fairer. Besides the Thrall and Curshinka there aren't many visible weapons but I think with Vampires you don't really need to see them to know that they are dangerous.
Set 6 Vampire Slayers this has to be my favourite set from all of the Requiem figures it has all the iconic characters in it from the book. Top Row Abraham Van Helsing himself very much to me the grizzled doctor its a really fully of character he has a large ornate cross in his right hand a big bible or perhaps a large bag on his back which could be full of all sorts of gear. The lovely Wilhelmina Harker or 'The Lost Love' as its called on the artwork. Finally in the top row we have Lucy Westenra or 'The Fallen Woman' both the ladies are lovely sculpts I look forward to having fun painting them up. Bottom row we have the rest of the men from left to right we have Quincey Morris the American cowboy and explorer with his Bowie Knife and repeater rifle. Lord Arthur Holmwood armed with revolver and lantern these two in particular I really like from this set and probably are my favourites across the whole range. The remaining two are Jonathan Harker carrying a bible and candle and finally Doctor Seward carrying a large bag no doubt full of equipment and probably opium....
Finished off two more figures last weekend really. But I took some pics mid week and spotted a few mistakes that needed correcting before re-taking the pics. Works really ramped up and I can feel the start of a cough/cold coming so hobby time has been sparse this week.
Anyway first up is Mr.Perring a gentleman's gentlemen. Limited Edition figure you only got by buying a special bundle deal. Luckily for me a good friend Doctor Warlock (Drew Wood) had two and sent me one!!
Second figure done is Wargame Foundry's John Bull again another oop/Limited Edition figure I think. Not painted up typically in his usual Union Jack waistcoat. He'll be joining my Criminals as taskmaster (Vice President) Not received the rules still yet so we'll see what happens with criminal gangs.
Some of the comments on my previous post got me thinking that there aren't many pictures showing how big some of the Gents and Jackanapes are in comparison to the other figures and some may think that £7.00 is to much for a single figure. Not having done much hobbywise this weekend decided to take some size pictures to show you all what you get for £7.00 now I don't have all the G&J's but they apart from Holmes and Watson all similiar in size even Lady Luck is quite a large figure with her rifle, cape and feathered hat.
All Westwind Empire apart from the second from left which is Wolsung.
You can see how big Cedric and The Apeman really are here.
Thw Wolsung Ogre being used as a Dredger type character.
All the big guys with littles inbetween.
This one show just how chunky Cedric and the Apeman are and why they are £7.00
Hopefully I'll have another few figures done this week depending on how busy work is etc. Fingers crossed!
Another of the Gentlemen and Jackanapes added onto the original Empire of the dead rules. This guy is a brute of a miniature comes with a choice of hats Bowler and a Top Hat he is one of my favourite special characters.
Trapped between man and animal in a body corrupted by a foul infernium experiment. Treated as a freak by society, he acts as an intelligent source and occasionally much more for his masters. Driven by hatred of his own form he will stop at nothing to prevent further corruption of the natural world.
I shall pick up another eventually I think so I can do a bowler hat version I had though of magnets but i'd already pinched the bowler to use on my Dredger conversion.
Butler is nearly done leaving two more figures to finish before letting myself start any of the Requiem figures. Works become really busy due to one of my colleagues breaking his elbow and it will be 6 months before he can even drive so.......busy times ahead nevermind!
Finished off Foundry's version of Colonel Moran. Its a really nice dynamic sculpt. I tried to give his jacket a scruffy stained appearance as he doesn't really come across to me as the gentlemanly type. I really quite like the rifle which I presume is supposed to be his air rifle.
