July Update

Well Well what are we upto lately? Not a fat lot to be honest! Had a cracking holiday got back last Friday, weather was glorious for a change and the place was great kids loved it and fun was had by all. Can't help but feel I need a holiday to get over it though!

Hobby front wise not done a great deal. Weather has been so hot and lovely I'd rather be outside enjoying it whilst it lasts! Catching up with peoples blogs slowly and all the other various forums I lurk at.

Reading wise I've been doing a fair bit and have got a few books on the go. Goldfinger by Ian Fleming I'm finding the books superb and this is the sixth one I've read so far. They are a little different to how the films go and It seems quite strange the order that they go in when all I've really known previously was the films.

I think because there slightly less gadgetry its all the more believable. The description in the books are excellent and reminds me why I much prefer books over films.

I've also just re-read Earth Hive by Steve Perry and just started reading book 2 Nightmare Asylum. I've read these books numerous times and I just love all the spin offs of the Alien/Predator franchises.

I stripped my 15m Exterminators that I had started previously and I'm back to researching a camo scheme for them as they weren't looking how I want them to at all. Hopefully I'll start these again this week depends on what takes my fancy.

  2. I agree the James bond books are a good read. You will easily note that the older the film (other than Casino Rayale with Nivern) the closer they stick to the book.

Glad you had a good holiday and many bloggers seem to be in a rut with painting/modelling. It might just be the time of year.

  3. I've read a few of the more recent Bond books by other authors [i.e. *not* Fleming], just because they were cheap. Definitely not as good as the originals.

As for painting, model-making or anything like that - I'm not surprised if fellow hobbyists in the UK are finding it hard. Unusually hot weather saps my energy for all but the essential activities of life [working, eating, sleeping]...

  5. Live and Let Die, From Russia With Love, Diamonds are Forever, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and You Only Live Twice are my favorite Bond novels.

Wish they would make the novels into films, period pieces that follow the novels exactly.

  6. Good to have you back fit and refreshed, I've yet to read a Bond novel, but I've heard that they are much more gritty and as you say more believable as a result.

  11. Nice to have you back Simon. The bond books are grand and a quick read to boot. I've been trying to paint but its been rainstorm after rainstorm here with 80% humidity. Paint isn't drying that well these past few weeks.

  13. The Bond novels were a good read, most of the newer Bond films (probably since Connery actually) bear little or no relationship to the books.

  14. Good for you mate. It's good to have a break and the Bond books are rather good. It's ages since I read one. I know just how you feel wanting a break toget over a break.
