Trees, Trees and more Trees

Well its all been a bit weird for me lately in the Brummie Household. Before Christmas I ended up having some weird skin reactions and since then have been on some strong anti histamine tablets, But since seeing a specialist last month and having to double what I normally take every day I have noticed a significant increase in tiredness and lack of concentration which at first I had just put down to lacking motivation but have now twigged that this a side effect of the medication. So hoping to become more productive and trying to over come the meds side effects. So I am trying to get half an hour in each day of some sort of hobby activity.

Anyway so doing little bits each day has resulted in not really painting much in regards to miniatures but have been getting some simple tasks done. I've had a quite a few kickstarters arrive over the past month or so with a two of the large one being from Oathsworn Miniatures Burrows and Badgers kickstarter and my Crooked Dice 7TV Apocalypse kickstarter landing.

I plan to write some more posts on the kickstarters in the coming weeks. In regards to Burrows and Badgers I want to start getting some games in to learn the rules but really need to sort some terrain for it. So This week I have been getting around to making some generic terrain that I've been put off for a few years!!

So this week I dug out out my trees I got off ebay (about 3 years ago or more I think now!!!) and got them based. I used some 40mm mdf bases I got from Colonel Bills stand last year. I trimmed off the plastic pin off the tree trunk and then used a hot
glue gun to affix them to the bases. I left it 24 hrs between stages just to make sure everything had dried fully before the next step.

Glued down onto the bases

Some scale shots with other figures. I may pick up a few larger trees to dot about I think.

There are two sizes of tree I picked up two bags so have 9x 10cm and 10x 8cm size trees. The tenth10cm tree I have used for something else which you will see below.

I add some brown paint to the water that was used to mix the filler. I was hoping it would help get a better coverage. As paint over filler before has took quite a few coats as the white seems to soak up the pigment. It still took two coats of Burnt Umber afterwards to get a uniform colour

I then added some of my coarse flock I use on my miniatures bases in random patterns but still leaving the brown base under neath showing. I add some random bits of clump foliage to some bases just to add a bit of variety

The Tenth tree I had used previously on this Apocalyptic Terrain piece. I used the opportunity to get this finished.

Now all flocked with some clump foliage attached. I now need to seal them all but not sure what with or how yet. Will be doing some research on that or open to suggestions?

  1. Nice. I especially like the car one.

  2. They look great, Simon. I am not sure how feasible it would be for a tree of that size to grow inside a car, but it does look good as a scenery piece.

    1. Thanks Bryan. If you google tree sand abandoned cars you will find plenty of images. As its for my post apocalyptic board where everything is a good few years down the line I don't think its unfeasible.

  4. Every table needs trees! Nice job.
I’ve been told that you can deal treees with hair spray. I haven’t tried. My trees just shed leaves all the time. 😀

  5. Getting Trees right can be a real pain! Better I find to stick to deserts for wargames. (Just kidding)

Your trees look great. Leaf shedding aside I am sure the will serve you well.

As for health matters I wish you well and remember to hug the dog. (Not sure hat helps all that much but it should make you feel better!)

  8. Sorry to hear your meds have messed you up, but at least you've found the problem and just need to find the solution. The trees look really effective, and love the apocalyptic piece
